I think it is interesting that so many people have so many different preferences. I think the troops section is actually really balanced out if so many people can't all decided "unit X" is the best. I like it when I have to struggle in my codex to choose between several units.

I agree with you, Darksaint. Too bad the Daemon codex doesn't have to much of that xD Most sections just have one or two obvious choices, and the rest range from average to bad.

I dunno, the elites choices are fairly competitive depending on tge list you're running.

The other sections are more blurred because they really dont have a specific "purpose" for them, or have few selections. HQ and Elites have powerful units that can fill whatever specific need for your army, as well as compliment whatever you take in a mono-god army. Daemon Princes and Soul Grinders are the only HS Choices you get, and they're good for just about any situation, but for different reasons.
However, Troops are generally there to put down a scoring unit and to provide bulk to your army. Bloodletters and Daemonettes would work really good if they were cheap or had survivablity. If the Bloodletters retained their armor from the previous edition(and the appropriate point cost), they could contend for being one of the best troop choices in the book, and maybe the entire game. Daemonettes suffer from the same issue. I'm paying the cost for a Chaos Space Marine, but getting something that, at range, has the survivablity of a guardsman. The two are simply not suited to what they're suppose to do. Bring bodies? hardly with that price. Squat objectives? Without a decent armor save or ranged weapon, they're nto gonna be squatting anything, at least not successfully.
Taking them from an Annhilation point of view, however, Bloodletters and Daemonettes are really powerful. Nothing makes your opponent brown his pants more than a unit filled with rending claws and attacks that would make a berserker piss his trousers, except for an almost equal number of attacks made with power weapons. Bloodletters, in particular, are really cheap for troops armed with power weapons.

Wow. You're on a roll today Mecha. Another great post.
I still stand by Plaguebearers, as I can take more nasty stuff if I take (Max Fiends in a 1000 point list).

I play a mono-god army so I tend to overanalyse the various units I have at my disposal. This is why I rarely post in the other tactics topics XD.

I think all of the four troop choices are good with daemonettes as the weakest choice. Horrors are shooty and have a good saving throw plus they can take the Changeling. Plague Bearers are the best at holding objectives. Bloodletters in my opinion are the best assault choice but I think you need to take large squads (12 or more) plus they are also good at holding objectives if they are in cover and have gone to ground - T4 is still pretty darn good plus as mentioned most units won't want to charge them. Daemonettes are T3 and only moderately good in assault, they really need to be fielded in large squads to be of any use at all.
