Yeah, but me and my group usually go for total elimination, as in, the six turns thing gets completely ignored.

Then your point is moot since you are not actually playing 40K.

A house rulke like that will of course completely change tactics. So bringing up in a general thread is pointless.

I suggest looking at this thread before this one gest to 4 pages...esp. about an army no body cares about unless we are talking about Sushi or Anime.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Ordinarily you'd expect a Tau player to be toast against a daemon army that could be on top of him in turn 2. But in the batrep you can see how the Tau player used his kroot and piranhas as a screen to give him extra turns of shooting against the dropping daemons and win the game.

It's called a "defense in depth," and cheap/disposable units like kroot are essential to making it work. It allows shooty armies to win games where they would otherwise get overrun.

About the total elimination thing, we still usually have a turn limit, but it is higher, and obviously you can't play that way in tournaments, thus making this thread NOT moot.

Kroot may not have any point in a total elimination game, since they are primarily there to give the Tau player a temporary advantage in the early and mid game. Just enough breathing room to win the mission.

I would be surprised if Tau can be successful at all in total elimination, since like most of the xenos they are balanced for 5-7 turn missions. Heavy infantry assault probably dominates your local 40K scene?

I think are useful in numbers with a large amount of hounds and put them in woods if possible. I just hope they are fixed to get fleet or possilby stealth ability.

Mainly, but there are actually a fair amount of vehichles.

(My space Marine army has rhinos, tanks, and a land raider)

I have a friend who plays Tau, and it actually works pretty well. (Lots of Devilfish)
