MANZ' main function is scaring your enemy off of an objective in larger games, where you can afford to spend those points consolidating gains with big heavy slow units. They move/assault 9" so you can rarely expect them to get the charge unless they're on the defensive. That said, if you leave them in cover they're frustrating as all get out and they can cover an objective against all but the most dedicated assault troops at the same cost. Or you could mount them and get 15" of area denial, which is pretty helpful, at least until your wagon's blown.
All that said, your elites section has some much scarier units to play with.

If you're going to take them to cover an objective, you might as well make them a troops choice. Two birds and one stone.

I've had a lot of success in the past with the "MANz Missile" (though I never heard it called that till I read this thread). Three of them in a truck w/ ram + two upgrades (rokkit/skorcha) is 170 points, not bad for a base 9 power klaw attacks running around. Your opponent either pulls fire off from your battlewagons, or lets the MANz run amuck. I don't think mine have ever lived through a game, but they usually make double their points back tearing through SM squads, transports, even IG tanks. Only things I regret sending them against, are MC and dreadnoughts :( (oh and any unit with all power weapons....)

Again MANz will work but you have to know what to throw them at
That is a major strategy for playing Orks. Sure its not as bad as Eldar, but with Orks you get cocky. You have to use every unit as bad as you can, because they die VERY easy. MANz are perfect against tac squads, as you can just shrug off everything but the sgts power weapon. Even that is 1 dead meganob if your unlucky. Then you get all those PK attacks, they just crush the squads. They work awesome for holding objectives, specially in cover.
But again, you get cocky and use them wrong, they are a huge waste of points.

Mostly happens when people forget about the Waaagh! and realize just how far a unit of boyz in a BW can assault...

What doesn't?
Boyz don't, neither do assault terminators. 1 powerfist wound against a meganob kills 40 points, against an ork boy you lose 6 points, and 1/3 of an assault terminator is 13.3.

At 40 pts each and with 2+ armour saves, the closest thing you ll pull for comparison is the terminator.
1) Stat for Stat and point for point, Meganobs are a MUCH BETTER bargain against small arms (things that don't cause instant death to them, and are not AP2) compared to terminators. When taken in small groups of 3-5, you get to wound allocate the meganobs. A meganob will die after failing twice his 2+ armor save, as oppose to the terminator who dies after failing once.
2) Against AP2 small arms, Meganobs (assuming they have no cover) are SLIGHTLY worse off than assault terminators, who have a 3+ invulnerable save against the wound. However at 2 wounds each, they are as if having a 4+ invulnerable save (if you understand what I mean by math), against terminator's 3+.
3) Against large arms (things that instant kill T4), Meganobs are much worse off than terminators. For e.g., a lascannon will kill a MANz outright, while a terminator have a 2/3 chance of surviving it.
The above simply means that (1) is the best scenario for using MANz, and make sure you take them in small groups (and I don't see them being useful in big groups anyway) of 3 or 4, to maximize the benefits of wound allocation. Send them against troops (preferbly w/o powerfist, power weapons are fine but still try to avoid). A squad of 10 Grey hunters with basic weapons will take a much longer time killing a squad of 3 Meganobs than a squad of 3 terminators, if you do the math.
Another problem is their Ld, since they are at Ld 7, and cant take bosspoles. Therefore, I tend to group them with Ghaz or Warboss, and multi-assault if necessary (so as not to overkill an enemy squad).
I have to agree MANz are not as versatile as terminators, since you have to send them into the right combat. But they have their cost efficiency...
+1

Who would take 10 meganobz in a wagon? That would be sweet to see make it into combat, as the potential for 40 powerklaw attacks is just damn sexy, but that's a minimum 490 point unit, closer to 560 if kitted out! Ok, I guess it's not that expensive, continue on.

Yeah...That could be a pretty fun unit to try, runs almost exactly the same points as a nob death star unit I'm taking to a tourney (570). Though all it takes is one of the many AP1/2 pie plates out there, and the unit is toast (then again, so is the nob unit, all they get is a cybork save).

If you are an ork player, get em, go on ebay or model em up, units of 5. You needn't worry about the invul, you have two wounds, make em different, go in as equal amounts as you can, shootas, and shoota combi's, I like the flamers personally. I stikk 5 of em in a trukk with ghaz and send em trukken across the board, absorbs alot of fire, and are very threatening to most players...... whoaaaa f....k meganobz and ghaz.... gotta shoot em.... its like magic, makes me laugh take em use em they work
