This is the principle behind the low-points Kan Wall--your opponent has basically nothing to fire his anti-personnel weaponry at, since your army is completely operating on AV's. It's the same principle as the tyranid horde list--nothing to fire big scary anti-tank at. It works based on the idea that the enemy HAS to have both anti-armor and anti-infantry weapons in his army, and makes that versatility backfire on him by making one of those weapons groups useless.

A kan wall backed up by a large horde of boyz has plenty of soft targets for enemy shurikannons, heavy bolters, and burst cannons.

A kan wall backed up by a few dreads and squads of mounted boyz (Or grots hiding in cover) has virtually none.

BTW, I think I can speak for most of the people on this thread when I say that I have no idea what you're talking about when you say "ramifications for the 4+ basis of the build that I have mentioned."

If you take more than *just a couple* of Dreads, where are the cover saves for your boys gone? They normally have a nice 4+ from people being for to shoot through the kans, where as with 'bulk' dreds, having half a unit 'in cover' significantly harder and people shooting your scoring units out from under you is alot easier. which as we know, just isn't viable.

So what is viable without removing key elements of the list, 120~ish boys 4+ cover & a ton of AV? I personally like gretchin squads so [i]I'd still like to keep one in, so just how many dreads wouldn't comprimise the list? 1 in troop & 1 in HS? etc etc.

Running 5 Dreads, no kans. And I'm trying to think out just how Dready one could make it.

I think the crux of the matter is that Kans can offer a wider front of coverage to units behind them because of the squadron rules. Only one of the kans needs to be in range of the KFF where each of the Dreads needs to be.

The Majority of the Kans in a squadron need to be with-in 6" of the big mek, otherwise as per the squadron rules they do not all counts as obscured and the squadron would not have a save. The unit itself, in the same fashion as infantry needs the majority to be 'in cover'.

By the same token, it's easier for boys to gain cover from Kans than dreads as shooting through a unit causes 4+ cover. Where as for dreads it's based of Los blockage.

Not to mention, you have more kans on the table. Dreds are cool, and fun and can cause alot f death, but the problem is, there is less of them on the table. Therefore they are easier to shoot down. I never take dreds when playing a semi serious game for that reason. They just get shot t ribbons. But having 9 kans, depending on how you set up, with a cover save, now thats more like it. Not to mention they are good shooters, and can krump vehicles in assaults as well
