What?

This makes no sense...

A Wolf Guard Pack is an Elites Choice unit.

A Wolf guard battle Leader is an HQ Choice Unit.

That's 2 Units.

Not to mention that Wolf Guard packs are Elites...

Yes. A Wolf Guard Pack is an Elite unit, altho individual models can be farmed out to other units and change their designation. The WG Battle Leader is an HQ IC. The WG are not a retinue to the WGBL. Want them together in DoW, start them off the table.

Really, you can do the same witht eh Farseer and Warlocks, or the SM Captain and his guys, etc etc. You justy cannot start more than one HQ UNIT and two Troops UNITS on the table.

Do what I do and deploy zero HQ's in DoW and roll them on in turn 1 packed up with whatever unit they belong with. DoW says you can deploy up 1 HQ and up to 2 Troop units. So deploy zero HQ and whatever on the Troop choices.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Look at it this way regarding Wolf Guard+Other Squad and Farseer+Warlocks.

Can the individual model in question possibly leave the unit?

Wolf Guard = No.

Farseer = Yes.

If he's an independent character it doesn't matter if his retinue doesn't take up a FOC slot. It's still a seperate unit of the appropriate type that you have attached an IC to.

Don't misuse the retinue word... it's not a retinue unless the IC that lets you buy it a) must join and b) can't leave. Warlocks are not a retinue, they're just a HQ unit that you can buy for having a Farseer.
