snackajack93 wrote:Maybe the assassin is a big points investment. I don't know how many of these I have posted but here's another army list and hopefully at this point I'm fixing down a decent list, all of your help has been invaluable and I'm glad I didn't get unrealistic suggestions like two Hydra's etc

Why is dual hydra unrealistic? Monetary issues, or do you think they're cheese? I run dual hydras at 2250+ pts, and don' find it too cheesy as most people at this range have easy ways of dealing with them.

1x sorceress- level 2, tome of furion- 150pts
Close, but at the very minimum, she needs to be lvl 4. In this list she'll have to be your general, since the master is your BSB. Do you really want your army to have LD8? That's OnG territory.

1x master- shield, heavy armour, sea dragon cloak, battle standard, pendant of khaeleth- 150pts
Very solid, only thing I would suggest is adding either a halberd, or beastmaster's scourge, but not bad as is.

20x corsairs- command, sea serpent standard- 250pts
20x corsairs- command- 225pts
Both good, though I'd really consider dropping the second one, as it'll free up enough points to iron out the rest of the list.

30x spearmen- command, banner of murder- 250pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
No arguments here, solid choices.

5x dark riders- repeater crossbows- 110pts
Again, good pick

10x cold one knights- command- 310pts
Too many points for the roll you want them to fill. Being immune to psychology (from stupidity) means you can't bait and flee with them (and why would you want to?) I would cut them down to 5 + champion. Gives more points to spend else where.

5x shades- two hand weapons- 85pts
Very good unit, you'll always be able to find a use for them.

2,000pts exactly

I made some more comments in red. The point of having a Lord level, is the LD boost, so I would definitely find a way to get one. Here's a list I'd make based off what you have

1x supreme sorceress- level 4, talisman of preservation, darkstar cloak- 330pts
1x master- shield, blood armour, sea dragon cloak, battle standard, pendant of khaeleth, beastmaster's scourge- 167pts
24x corsairs- standard, musician, sea serpent standard- 280pts
30x spearmen- command, banner of murder- 250pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
5x dark riders- repeater crossbows- 110pts
5x cold one knights- dread knight- 151pts
5x shades- two hand weapons- 85pts
assassin - manbane, rending stars, extra hand weapon (joins the shades) - 151

-1994

There's 6 points to play with. This allows you to take an assassin, have a unit/role for him to fill where he shouldn't die very fast. By dropping the second corsair block and trimming the CoK, it allows you to get a much better caster, a higher LD general, and the blood armor for the BSB is optional, though if he's with your spearmen, if he gets into combat he'll be wounding stuff, getting him to a 1+ save with a reverse ward save is just awesome.

Also, now you can run your corsairs 6x3 instead of 5x4. The increased frontage will net you an extra 4 attacks in combat, which, with the appropriate buffs, can be 4 more wounds.

The CoKs are now at a points level to where, if they end up failing stupidity at a higher rate (like mine tend to) you won't be having so many points sit there. And likewise, if you face armies that can obliterate them turn 1, you're not losing so many points in 1 shot.

Anyway, just my suggestions.

Being honest they seem very good suggestions, yes the Hydra issue is simply finance because I am a student and trying to stay plastic wherever possible

It makes sense to take at least one lord level character. If I do drop a unit of corsairs and increase the size of the other slightly and drop half of the cold one knights it frees up a lot of points. obviously some of these would be spent on upgrading the sorceress to a supreme sorceress. I'm not sure whether I would spend the points on an assassin as another unit of dark riders is very tempting but that list seems a great starting point Thanks a lot

Adapt it as you see fit, it is YOUR list. I was just giving you a base on where to get the extra points needed to shore up your loose ends.

A second unit of dark riders also wouldn't be a bad way to go. You could also alter the magic items on the characters. I tend to have a pretty unimaginative view of list building, so I tend to not take complex builds. Simple stuff like extra power dice, or extra saves is the way I'll usually go.

Another thing to consider, is maybe a sup. sorc. on pegasus. I know you plan on putting her in a unit, and it might be the best way to use her, since I don't know your meta and you might have a lot of warmachines about, but in my meta giving her the mobility is great. My 2500 list will have her on one.

here's an army list based on yours greenbay, all I've done is make the sorceress a tad more survivable and swapped in the assassin for another unit of dark riders, looking at it this army has quite a lot of firepower and is fairly mobile

1x supreme sorceress- level 4, talisman of preservation, tome of furion- 320pts
1x master- shield, sea dragon cloak, heavy armour, pendant of khaeleth, battle standard, halberd- 154
24x corsairs- command, sea serpent standard- 280pts
30x spearmen- command, banner of murder- 250pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
20x crossbowmen- standard, musician, shields- 235pts
5x dark riders- repeater crossbows- 110pts
5x dark riders- repeater crossbows- 110pts
5x cold one knights- 135pts
10x shades- additional hand weapons- 170pts

It looks good on paper, now all I need to do is purchase the models, paint them, then get a few games under my belt, I'll be posting soon for some tactics I'm just glad I have a decent list narrowed down thanks again

I would personally split the shades into 2 units of 5 (you don't have to, this would be something to playtest against your local meta) that way you can have multiple targets shot at (besides the DR) and unless he runs a pure gunline you should have a unit or 2 intact to deal with warmachienes.

Otherwise looking great.

Well personally if you want to be character cheap. Then i wouldn't buy a dread lord i would just upgrade the sorceress to sumpreme lvl 4 with talisman of protection or PoK which ever you decide to put on Bsb or her. you could take off the dark riders since you already have warmachine (hunting shades) And with out a CoB or banner or fighty champ for the CoK you will find them VERY under whelming. I have heard that running them with 5 with musician is very good, so with those points you should have enough to upgrade as you wish. But i have played like 8 or 9 games so dont have to take my word for it but this is just how i have seen it/ heard about it. oopppss haha this is late sorry.. didnt see other posts you basically did what iw as saying in here anyway.

haha no problem. I agree on splitting the shades into two smaller units, it simply gives me more options, deployment as well as shooting the cold one knights are for charging into the flank of an already engaged unit. just looking at this list it throws out a stupid number of shots. from the 10 dark riders thats 20, from the 10 shades thats another 20 and from the 40 crossbowmen thats 80! all in all thats 120 repeater crossbow shots. sounds good
