I've got 4 pedros and they all came with 25mm base. As people have pointed out GW are generally really good at rectifying any mistakes they do make.

People thinking it is ok to put a model on a larger base but not a smaller are thinking of 4th Ed. Now it is the base they are supplied with but as others have noted rule of cool and as long as you are not modelling for advantage should mean most opponents don't mind.

I think it's soprta ironic people are referring to 40mm bases as "terminator bases" when I recently got 4 older terminators off ebay that had, of course, the older 25mm bases.

It comes from the fact that the current plastic Terminators were (IIRC) the first models to come with the 40mm round base.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

The rule on page 3 (that also implies that models you haven't glued to their flying bases cannot be used) is general advice that the majority of the miniatures used in the game are on bases - the edge and area of those bases have effects in game terms and are therefore important.

That said, in 99% of circumstances putting your power-armoured Commander or other HQ model on a cool, scenic 40mm base has very little effect on the game.

Tournaments typically rule these as illegal for the reasons given earlier ITT, so the only problem you'll have is in tournaments (i.e don't do it for tournament armies or have an alternative model when playing a less-than-friendly game) or against rules lawyers who don't really intend to 'enjoy' a game with you (and you typically want to avoid games with these sorts anyway).

If you're doing it for some obvious advantage then you're clearly being a bad sport. Shame on you.

I've not found that tournaments "typically" rule a 40mm scenic base as illegal; generally the exact opposite.

As said before - "rule of cool" kicks in with modelling FAR more than not. If it looks cool and you're not clearly taking the *&$% then you should be fine, EVEN in tournaments.

Of course, TOs vary and, within the tournament THEIR word is law, so YMMV

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I use the term 'typically' to refer to the possible reason rather than infer that all TOs will enforce this. I have seen a SM player forced to use the only other 25mm-base model he had available to him (an unpainted plastic scout ), and although I thought the ruling was pretty appalling I'd frankly rather avoid the issue.

Since seeing this I've always used a 25mm version of my HQ for tournaments to avoid any possible conflict so I can't say I've had personal issues myself!

why on earth would you need 4 Pedros?

seems like 1 would be awsome enough.

1 for my army 1 for my mock try at golden daemon 1 for golden daemon. The final one being ordered and mail order messed it up and ended up sending me 2... Hence why I've 4.

4th is unpainted 3rd has been put on a 40mm base for obvious reasons but all came with a 25mm base.

Actually the new plastic Terminators come with a 25mm base (for the teleport homer I suppose). So it's legal to have a termie on a 25mm base. lol.

The rules tell you to use the base that is supplied with the model, not any base that happens to be in the same box.

How do you know that the base wasn't intended for a Terminator?

Ok, it's pushing it, but still...

The same way you know that the arms don't connect to the bottom of the torso. The kit comes with assembly instructions.

Even if those were missing, its easy to figure by counting and using deductive reasoning.

However, if for some reason the box contained nothing but 25mm bases then it would be fine for you to put them on those.

Oh, awesome so my old 2nd edition Tyranids can stay on the square bases they came with and I don't have to get new ones to replace them that saves me some time and money.

Yeah, the lack of solid basing rules in 40k does make life a little easier for people with older models.

Thinking about it, I would suspect that the number of different shape and sized bases used over the years is actually the very reason that GW have never insisted on specific bases for each unit type... Whereas WHFB does (or at least used to) have such rules, but has models that have almost universally remained on the same size bases through every iteration.

If you're playing outside your house I'd recommend doing it anyway when cashflow allows. It really looks better, and will make opponents happier if you have current and consistent base sizes.

Oh yeah I am changing them out I was just using the example to show the fallacy of the rule regarding bases with older models. I always try to replace older models bases for consistency's sake and it really isn't that much of a hassle so I don't understand why some people refuse to.
