Hi again all, long time no update mainly again due to work, seems everyone wants their websites before the VAT goes up in January.
Anywho, I've not been totally skipping on the Company build. Managed to turn my attention to some heavy support in the form of some much needed armour. Mainly the Landraider seen below. I kept the spare head from the stegadon kit, used in an earlier post, so that I could have a go at sculpting a huge skin to lay across the landraider hull, figured that if a squad of marines are important enough to ride around in a landraider they're bound to have earnt it along with some uba trophies.
Rather than building up layers upon layers upon layers of GS I snipped up an old spur into 5mm long ish pellets and built up the rough shape before filling in the gaps with GS and sculpting the scales. Feel much better about sculpting scales now, guess the whole 'practice makes perfect' adage rings true...although they're far from perfect
The other reason for the long delay in updates, Pipppin our new kitten who seems to love posing for a pic or two.

Hi all, long time no update again. I feel like after starting this blog the universe has conspired against me to stop me from posting regular updates. I'm blaming this huge gap on the wonderour flue like bug that seems to be sweeping through the UK :(
Anywho, I've not been completly idle. As I've not been able to stand the smell of poly cement with such a raw nose of late I still wanted to get a bit of Salamander fix in to stop myself from going crazy. The results can be seen below. Still trying to think of a name for him so any and all suggestions most welcome.
He stands about 250-300mm tall and is made entirly from paper Came across http://actionpapercrafts.blogspot.com and haven't seen anything like it to my knowledge on here so thought I'd give it a go. There's 2 different patterns that you can download, one was made to celebrate the launch of a Dawn of War which stands roughly 350mm tall when finished, however it only comes with a Blood Ravens texture file whereas the other you'll find listed comes with a huge folder full of different textures for different chapters. You'll also need a pretty amazing free prog called 'Pepakura Viewer' to change the standard Ultramarine texture and print off all the pages you'll need. You can get that for free from here http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/download/viewer.html
Anywho, pics below, hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Year, see you in 2011!
I need a name...any suggestions?

Hey all, hope everyone's had a great Christmas and is ready for New Years? Just a quick update on the build process. Yet more evil flue like illness has prevented any more progress on the mini front. I did however stumble upon a nice new home for the company at a local furniture recycling warehouse. See below.
All wired up with lighting etc at long last, just need to finish off the last tactical squad and start the uba painting session

I think that would've been the cherry on top.
Thank you thank you. Got those from a friend. Never used to like them but they grew on me over time hence I accepted them when he gave them to me (and 'cause I wanted to show him up 'cause they were painted really quite badly). He stopped collecting soon after he started 'cause they changed the Lizardmen just after he bought his first few and thought it would look weird to mix them. Meh. His loss.

Defo his loss! I remember buying them myself back in the days when a pack of Sarus Warriors only cost £5 instead of the £20 they do now...think that was then they used to come in about 2 parts and kitbashing only ever involved swapping a square base for a round one
P.S...Look out for the life scale terminator head that'll be appearing soon

Hi all, just a quick update with some pics of the latest addition WIP for some interesting display projects.
Still in its raw card form at the mo, waiting to be fibreglassed and painted tomorrow , expertly modelled by wife and 4 year old daughter...see bottom
Yep that grey dot on the top has been a GW Space Marine helmet all along for scale
If anyone would be willing I'm trying to create my own Terminator Helmet papercraft file that will be freely available on Dakka once its completed but at the moment I could do with some help on a few test builds of the current model state...please read topic below for pics and detials:...

Woo not so long no updates this time
Just a quick one to show I really do finish mad projects that I start. Pics below of full sized Salamander Space Marine helmet finally fibreglassed and painted, (with suitable heavy battle damage ) along with a mini desktop sized version to keep at work as the full sized version took up too much space
Desktop Version (Last pic was taken on A4 paper for scale reference)
Full Sized Version (Thats Space Marine Full Sized so looks really stupidly large unless you're 8' tall and built like a brick out house )
(Last pic taken with a 150mm or 6" square for scale reference )

Hi all, wow talk about long time no update! Hey-ho, just as you decide to start a new army life throws all sorts of other pot holes in the way to stop you painting gosh darn it!!! Still at least this time one of those pot holes just so happened to be a friend introducing me to the world of fantasy warhammer, (thanks chris31092,) which I've become somewhat addicted to over the last few months and now have a pretty strong High Elf army, woohoo! which have been doing a pretty nice job of flattening his chaos warriors army, because lets face it, the only good chaos minion is a dead one However, back to the more important point that is the salamanders.
At the end of my last update I'd still got a few tactical squads to left to build which have finally been built, along with the addition of a veteran vanguard squad, (I know that most salamander collectors shy away from assault squads because of the higher gravity on Nocturn making it difficult to train with such items...but lets face it, assault squads attacking on wings of flame with flamers in hand spouting great gouts of flaming death...sounds pretty awesome to me ,) along with a couple of extra razor backs.
Having only learnt how to play 40K not so long ago my painting technique has had to undergo some changes as previously I've only ever painted individual models to as high a standard as I can achieve for display purposes only. After spending a couple of weeks experimenting with different shades and mixes of greens I've finally settled on a Vallejo Sick Green base coat applied by airbrush over a thin white primer key layer. I've found that by applying the base coat by airbrush really does help get a great flat and even starting point for later shading a highlighting layers. I'm still experimenting with different test models from squad to squad to get that perfect balance between painting for the table top and for display.
Below are a few pics of the first finished complete tactical squad that I've managed to finish along with a supporting Thunderfire Cannon, (which I'm planning a small group of 5 in total...eventually )
Thanks for reading, more updates much much much sooner than this one to last.
(Apologies for the semi fuzzy pics, still learning how to use the new camera )

Thanks muchly, hope they can serve as even the smallest amount of inspiration for anyone else out there that's undecided about starting a Salamanders army. Considering they're a first founding chapter they hardly seem to get any coverage from Blood Angels obsessed GW

Thanks muchly, I've always been a bit confused as to why GW have so much printed material, especially with Black Library releases, describing their skin tone as onyx yet in the 'How to paint Space Marines' book they've painted them with just a darker skin tone.
Difficult thing now is to keep the momentum going
