IIRC, the only thing in 3rd that could ID a C'tan was a Wraithcannon, and it just gave him a wound with no save. So, with friends just play it like that with any ID weapons.

If you can be that patient. It's hard for him to reach an enemy's rear lines for an assault when he can't run. And then when it's time for him to do so, you have to move the monolith out of his way.

The only time he is of any use is against things like nid hordes, which are going to come to you. His Gaze of Death is quite useful then.

Other than that he is too slow...

I always assumed that even though he is a god the living metal shell restricted some of his powers, which is why when he dies he explodes and hits everything around him.

Also, he hasn't fed for a while, so is weak.

I think to bring him up to scratch the lightning arc should function more like a particle whip, i.e. big blast not a single shot.

ID weapons should only wound him.

He should have the psychic abomination rule and soulless rules, in the same way as pariahs.

I keep seeing things like "but theres only 1 nightbring, so unless he cans wat imperators ..."

Thats irrelevant, if his physical shell gets destroyed his slaves will just make him a new one ... you cant kill a c'tan without a blackstone fortress. Or another c'tan eating it.

Well when you compare the feats of the C'tan described in the background to what he can do in tabletop its just silly. Yes tabletop doesn't represent fluff 100%, but the difference between fluff SM and tabletop SM is minute compared to what the Nightbringer should be able to.

Also why do necron gods have to be suckiest? We get the short end of the stick in everything else, why can't our deities be cool too?

Indeed. His attack that ignores all saves, even after edition changes, makes him still an amazing assault model. That's why every Imperial army is gonna blast him with every lascannon they have. If you can keep him in cover... great... It's a toss-up, really. His 3+ invulnerable makes him either a living Juggernaut or a statistical pin-cushion for heavy weapons. The question is which way would you rather play him. Between sheltering him, running him straight to the primary target (which hopefully the enemy left close to the edge of the deployment zone) or a progressing vehicle-simulator that continues to fire his lightning arc... well, that's all up to you. And if you think the points are worth it. Though honestly, since 5th edition, none of the points are worth it for Necrons, so you're basically forced to play a fluff army since any way you roll it, the rules are against you. At this point it's a matter of personal choice applied at the enemy's deployment strategy and such. He's still a fantastic assault vs. *anything*. But that means that your opponent will likely plasma and lascannon the jeebus out of it.

But since you already bought it, I'll tell you that it's a very rewarding mini to paint when you take your time. The teeth and tongue can be done - I've done it. Hopefully, if they ever update Necrons, he will be brought to his former glory. Unfortunately, if you ever plan on playing against a player who has played necrons and knows their heavy weapon weakness... well... maybe you should start building a secondary army that has been recently updated. It's the only way you will be able to level the playing field. It was very, very depressing for me, as a necron player to admit that and shelve them. But after a few wins for me, my group got wise and since then, it's been over for me. A 30-game losing streak is enough to make anyone throw in the towel.

I like how you painted that. And I agree, Necrons just can't be played for significant amounts of time anymore and expect to win. So I've been forced to shelve them and wait for a new codex and start Orks, despite Necrons being my favorite army in 40k.

If Games Workshop would update more things then just space marines, it'd be great for all the outdated codex's and their players, and ultimately their business.

I have honestly been hoping the Crons get a codex soon. hell, if dark eldar have been done, those metal skellies are officially the oldest codex we've got! I don't care if GW writes up a bunch of rules for models that won't exist for years. just gimme the damn book!

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you
