Alright, I'll accept the general concensus that assaults just aren't that good. Sad indeed
I'm going to go for Teudururs list, not sure what landraider variation I'll end up with though.. or indeed if I'll even get one painted this decade  I'm strictly playing friends so counts-as is fine, I'll try them all out and see which one works best I think.

Assault marines are okay-ish. They just don't work in this list.

Yeah; in large numbers, particularly with Shrike to give them Fleet, they can be pretty good. But they kind of have to be the focus of the list.

Well, BA assault marines are a horse of a totally different color. You know, being scoring units, being able to bring meltaguns to the party, having much more reliable Deep Strike ability, and having Sanguinary Priests to reduce the amount of damage they take from anti-infantry guns in the open and non-PW attacks in close combat.

Furious charge from the priests as well!
Exactly this. It takes ALL that over normal assault marines to make them competitive.
