feth it, the models are awesome and from what I've seen the army can be pretty damn devestating in the hands of someone capable of tactics beyond "RAWR THROW MAH MUREENZ AT STUFF"

No. A "bandwagon hopper", if you must use that term, is one who plays a new faction because they believe they're more powerful rather than because they like the new faction.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The models are pure sex. Armor plates with nice edges, lots of sleek lines and curved blades.

I would say anyone who thinks you're a bandwagon hopper would themselves be dicks. They probably just accuse you of that so that they can feel a little better about their own armies and/or intimidate you enough to go back to your old army, which they have gotten used to fighting and can probably win against. These people tend to be power gamers, or bandwagon hoppers themselves who realised what they were and are just trying to justify what they did by pointing at other people (say, a BA player who changed his Ultramarine army into a BA one just to use the codex to win games, got accused of it and tries to justify the switch by permanently remaining a BA player, then accusing other people of it by pointing out how they are not jumping on the next one).

I have been called a bandwagon jumper for starting my Dark Eldar. Know what? I really do not care. They are a FUN army to play. They hit like a metric ton of bricks, but die to a stiff breeze. I am enjoying the challenge of playing an army like that.
If that helps, I would say go for it, so different from spess mareenz. Note that I still enjoy my spess mareenz.

10'000 years ago, Terra was under siege. The Sons of Rogal Dorn stood firm at the gate, never letting an inch slip away so long as we drew breath. We were killed in droves defending the Emperor and his Imperium, and we killed many in turn. We defended the Emperor and his Imperium, and this is what it means to be a Fist

Personally, this is my first army ever. I watched my friends at college play for the past year, and decided to get in to 40k about a month before the DE codex was coming. They simply appealed to me style, gameplay, and fluff-wise, so I went with what I thought I would enjoy. As long as you aren't someone who will discard the army when the next codex comes, really don't think it's bandwagon.

Jump in feet first and enjoy yourself, and don't listen if anyone accuses you of bandwagoning. It really only applies to people who always only play the latest army. Plus, Dark Eldar are pretty much exempt from having a bandwagon per se, for two reasons. First, they are not an obvious power army because although they can pack a serious punch they take skill and finesse to play. Second, they were so out of date, and previously burdened by such horrible miniatures, that there are probably many many people like us who have been waiting years for this specific release. Personally, this is the first time since third edition that I've been excited enough about a newly released army to immediately start collecting it. Lots of people are going to be collecting Dark Eldar, but not just because they're the latest and/or most powerful army.

Damn right man. This is the way everyone should select an army not "how can I win the most".

So true. This reason might actually justify bandwagon-ing for DE, solely out of celebration for their long-deserved update.
