I think we may be talking about different things.
Are you talking about the Resource things at the bottom? Because that is what I am talking about.

Yeah. There are a bunch of hidden tabs as well. Some are just locked and hidden code to make the builder work properly (or semiproperly. There is a bug that lets the "model count" show slightly higher values than what are true) to my knowledge, and I will find a way to work around it shortly.

But there are also hidden data pages. These are arranged as tables, and if you enter the password given in the builder you can sort by different parameters (like sort by A, pts cost or alphabetical. Alphabetical should be standard). Here you can look to find the exact input needed, if you can't figure it out.

The code tabs shouldn't be too helpful, as the code in the cells is hidden as well. So ignore these.

the different categories are: Special Rules, for if you can't get the wording right on a special rule you want to find out about; Wargear, for if you can't get upgrades or wargear properly (this section includes vehicle upgrades); and Unit Stats, where - you guessed it - you find stats and wording for the units.

these data tabs can be quite useful for whatever you want to look up. There is always something that I forget how it's supposed to be entered.

The Phantasm Grenade Launcher is not working in builder. Other than that thanks alot for a good work! : )

Thanks for pointing it out. The Phantasm is a piece of wargear that has a lot of different point costs, ranging from 10 to 25 depending on who has it. Accepted names for it include: Phantasm Grenade Launcher Hellion, Phantasm Grenade Launcher Archon, Phantasm Grenade Launcher warrior, Phantasm Grenade Launcher wyche. Those are the alternatives, with different point costs.

When the next update comes the most common alternative (hellions and warriors), will be the standard (priced at 20 pts). I will also include a read-me FAQ in the planned .rar, explaining this among other things. Thanks for pointing it out to me! Next update will probably come either soon or late january, as I have quite a lot going on IRL atm. Will see when santa drops it on the interwebs! Glad you like the builder (:

I just wanted to congratulate you and say that this is an amazing builder.

Iv'e noticed one problem with it though. On the Resource Gunboats tab you have Racked Trueborn on Venom's. In my codex the venom is unable to take splinter racks.

Not sure if this was released in a DE FAQ but I did not think venom's could have splinter racks.

Anyway, great Army Builder...it convinced me to sign up to this forum lol.

EDIT 1: Also something I noticed is when I do Heavy Support for Ravager, # column is 2. Following is Razor wing, #column is 1. It counts my Heavy Support Choices Total only as 2.

Type the name of the wargear as per the codex.

Nice builder, thanks! I wish it would auto complete with the name input but its still cool!

First, this is truly awesome thank you. Second, is there a certain way that you have to save the document? I was working on a 1000 point list last night, saved it and renamed it, but was unable to open it this morning.

Trix:
You are completely correct. Wracked venoms are illegal. Thank you for pointing that out! (I hadn't noticed until just now!)

I do not, however, understand what you mean about Ravagers and Razorwings. Are you entering them in to different columns in the army builder, or are you sorting the units by type (Heavy Support)? Or are the units giving an incorrect unit class value (or number?) Please do clarify, and I will fix it!

More about the resources: Especially the gunboat comparison is not completely accurate. I have learnt alot from playing DE, and realized Venoms are seldom used as I described them. Using them to get blasters in to range is much more common (for good reasons!). The entire resource part of the builder will be entirely re-done and put as a seperate spreadsheet. When I find the time off from painting, studies and work

Also glad you appreciate it the builder (: And I'm very proud to convert you in to a dakkaite! Truth be told, I only joined to share this with the community as well!

Gdead909:
This is an excel document just as any other, only with a few pre-made enhancements. I generally leave a few blank rows beneath every set of units, to add the number (to the left) and wargear (to the right) just like you would any other unit. For all intents and purposes, you can treat wargear and units the same on the main page!

And I did leave the hellglaive out intentionally. There is no way to buy a loose hellglaive. All you can do is remove it to get better wargear, so the stats from the hellglaive are merged with the Hellion. The hellglaive gives +1 A and +1 S. The +1 S is actually NOT included in the statline for Hellions., but the +1 A is. I will fix this for the next update, so that the +1 S is included as well, and the reasons hellglaives can't be found is given (:

cmac and darkfish:
Thank you for helping me answer fast! I generally only check these forums to check on this thread. You guys helped make sure there was a fast (and accurate) reply! You both deserve black belts in Armybuilder Support!

It would be cool if the builder could autocomplete. It does as soon as you have typed the names once. I have a thought on how I could implement that for the next update. What do you think would be best: 1) adding EVERY Unit and EVERY Wargear. This would prevent autofill as long as there are 2 or more options available, but autofill as soon as there is only one alternative left. 2) Adding EVERY Unit and only COMMON Wargear. This would allow for easier autofill in most cases, but could prevent people from adding uncommon wargear because they don't know it will work. 3) Only adding Units. This should allow autofill almost right off the bat, for every unit. However, no wargear would be included.

Please give me thoughts on this (: I'm currently leaning against #2, and including a read me / tutorial as a seperate file. This would make the download a .rar archive, with separate builder, read me and resources.

Piz:
The builder is just an ordinary Microsoft Excel document, but with a few pre-made enhancements. You save it just as you would save any other excel document, and there should not be any problems. If you lost your data, you probably didn't save correctly. Because there is no reason it shouldn't work just as any other excel file.

I generally keep a version of the file (2, actually. Backups of eachother, in different directories) that is entirely blank. Whenever I open it up and play around with different builds, I will use Save As to save the army I built, but still have access to a blank builder if I wish to start over. The only problems I have had with this are about development. Sometimes I fix bugs in one version, only to wake up the next day and add resources to the second. Then I overwrite one of the older files without realizing I'm deleting updates, and tehrefore some changes get lost in updates >.< That shouldn't be a problem for normal users, though!

I'm really glad this builder has gotten so much attention and support! I'm incredibly happy you all like it!

Hey, my vote is for No 1, information needs to be complete.

Hmm, you seem pretty handy with excel, how about the drop down boxes separated by FOC?

Eek, quite a bit of rework....

Right now, the Units page is sortable on FOC slot. I could choose to make the main page work the same way as well, but I do not think that would be too good. If you sort the entire list by FOC slot, it would group everything together. That would leave upgrades and wargear clumped up at the end, since there is no FOC slot for them.

Since Excel works the way it does there is no way to "link" wargear or upgrades to the units carrying them. Everything is treated as separate entries. So it is all up to you guys to keep your lists as clean or messy as you like

It is not a big change to make that sort possible. I just don't think it would be beneficial. If I misunderstood what you mean, please clarify!

Hey Ogrrr,

Sorry it has taken me a while to respond (school started and all)

What I was trying to say that, on the top of the builder where it lists Hq (2) Eliters (2) Troops (5) etc etc...Essentially giving you a break down of the FOC and how many of each you have.
I have listed 2 Ravagers, 2FF, 2NS following that is 1 Razorwing, 1NS,1FF.

In all rights that should count as 3 HS in the FOC, but it is only counting as 2.

Also you have the Hekatrix Leadership value listed incorrectly, it is listed as 8. I believe it should be 9.

Hope I am beta'ing your tester well enough for you, seeing as you built it well enough for me to use

Best of luck, and I am awaiting the future releases of your Army Builder!

EDIT 1: Might I suggest in future versions of the army builder, any modified stat line have ()...Example for the hellions would have listed in the A column 1(2). This way the change would be appropriated to the proper piece of wargear, and those that are new to the army don't look down and see the modified attack if it was simply listed as 2, then bump it up to 3 for helglaives and 4 for the charge etc lol.

I found the problem with the FOC. Basically, it is because for most units in the DE list, you will have squads. 10 wyches will take 1 troop choice, not 10. Therefore, every entry counts as a single FOC slot. When building lists it's easier to group similar entries together in to one row (i.e. 3 Ravagers), and since the builder is built to prevent showing wrong numbers of the first sort (10 x 3 troop choices for 3 squads of 10 wyches), it gives a wrong reading. This is no major fix, but I hadn't anticipated it. Thank you for pointing it out, I will make it work better when I update. Till then, just hold on to what you have and know the problem exists

I had some alfas with modified stats in paranthesises, but I removed it. The reason being I found it hard to read, and I wanted the builder to fit (width-wise) on my screen (768 x 1366 pixels). I do, however, realize that people use other resolutions, and that was a foolish hope, I will change it back, to make the builder more easily understandable.

You are doing a fantastic work beta:ing for me! I truly appreciate it! Just by finding all the bugs you are, you can all tell how much fine-tuning there is left I'm incredibly happy for your help!

How do you get the court of the archon to work? I can get the Sslyth and the medusae but all variant spelling of the Ur-Ghul and Lhamaean have failed.

Another discrepancy! Thank you. This is a relic from an older version of the builder, where I had all unit names in pluralis. I later decided to change the unit names to exactly the same way they are listed in the codex (it's a lot simpler that way!), and went through the entire list of units and wargear. Every now and then one or two pop up that for some reason or another (probably missing saves or the like) didn't get that treatment. Ur-Ghul and Lhamaean seem to be prime examples of this, especially since I remember looking up the spelling for the latter.

Simply adding an "s" to the end of their names will fix your problem in this version. Thank you for pointing it out to me!

I am pretty sure he meant the Hekatrix leadership stat. In your army builder it is listed as 8, but in the codex it is 9.

First of all: 4k views! That is fething insane, if you exscuse my language. I had never imagined attention like this when I started with this builder. I'm really glad it is appreciated!

Thank you Darkfish and Trix. Yeah, I'm working full time and studying at university. Minor changes like leadership values are pretty easy to fix for me, but the next version of this builder will hopefully be the last for the Dark Eldar. Therefore there are some major changes I have planned for this version, and it will take some time until I update. I have in no way abandoned this project.

This entire builder started as a way for me to learn how excel works and what is possible. That means that every exception to the rules, every problem I need to build a sollution from scratch. It is great fun, but it can also be very time-consuming. Just like painting

I am taking great heed to all your words and kind advice for how this builder should evolve. I have some great ideas, and you have all helped me immensely.

My goal is to be able to only bring your computer to a game or tourney, and have everything correct in the builder. But then again, it always helps to have a codex to convince your opponents that this builder is true. Also, a codex gives you an overview that this builder can not offer. So I do not in any way condole not buying a codex!

This list is what I'm currently working on:

Minor updates:
  • Some names and stats are wrong. This needs to be fixed.

  • Also, a complete readthrough of every statline and special rule, to make sure everything is correct.

  • Coding Updates:
  • The Model Count is incorrect. This makes keeping track of proxies easier

  • The org chart for monstrous creatures and single vehicles gives a wrong value if they are botched together.

  • I want an autofill for when you start entering a name, to make the builder easier to learn and use. This has prooved harder than I expected.

  • Autofill for special rules lookup as well.

  • Cosmetic Updates:
  • All resources will be re-made. Some of the values are incorrect, some of the entries are illegal, and many are irrelevant. I have learned alot about playing the DE, so I know better now what is a valid choice, and what isn't. Also, I know better what to compare.

  • The downloadable file will be made a small .rar archive. This will enable me to add a changelog, a tutorial on how the builder works and a short FAQ.

  • All resources will be removed from the builder. Instead There will be 3 extra excel docs, in the .rar archive, one for resources against MEQs, one for ORKS and one for GEQs. You will be able to only look up what is relevant for your local meta game, and not need to pay heed to the clutter of info that is irrelevant. If you are building a take-all-comers list, you can easily compare the different resources.

  • The first part of the updates will be easy. That will be done fast and simple. The second part of these planned updates are hard, technically. Because I often don't know how to solve a problem beforehand, that requires time. The third part is a lot of work. Granted: it is relatively easy work, but it is still a lot of hours ahead of me. I also want to keep the amount of new versions to a minimum, so I will only update when I consider the builder done and complete. It is a work in progress, but there is not all too much work left now. The update is coming, this is not an abandoned project. It is also not a complete project. It can get a lot better still!

Thank you all for betatesting. Keep me posted with all the bugs and wrong values you find. I will make sure to fix it!
