That's kind of funny because I went to a tournament last month where I made the same mistake with Chaos Daemons. Got tabled. The worst part was that I should have known, but a sleep deprived brain is not an effective brain...

Nurglitch wrote:Okay, here's why you failed. You see how your infantry are carefully spread out into a line? You needed to layer your squads so that he can't multi-charge and has to kill them one game turn at a time while you shoot his ass to grass.

Secondly, what are your Assault Marines doing near your own deployment zone? Why aren't they downfield murdering Long Fangs?

It's like you bent over in front of a Keeper of Secrets and wonder why your butt hurts...

except I charged him. And by this point, I had ran one squad of long fangs off the table, and a squad of out flanking scouts had butchered the other. The killer was the double 1s my assault marines rolled to assault through terrain (when an inch and a half away, and the dread being killed by a single rending chainsword.

Sorry, but I thought the original poster was the Crimson Fist player...?

Whoever it was, why on Earth would you charge Thunderwolves? The only place they're dangerous is in close combat.

20 marines, 10x assaults and a dread with Pedro nearby giving extra attacks, after a rapid fire from Sternguard and two las/autocannon predators, I was certain I could do enough damage to kill him. As it was, I think I killed the wolves and "maybe" one thunderwolf cav, before getting my face beat in, it was a lesson in how godawful dice can be sometimes.

If you don't charge them, I'm going to charge you. Your going to have deal with one or another.

That's my point: You have to be prepared not only for the best (the Thunderwolves die like little biatches), but for the worst where a full squad crashes into you. In which case you need to be able to mitigate the number of squads they can charge so that you can wear them down over several turns rather than hoping you get lucky once.

well first off, the 5+ save vs psychic powers doesnt do diddly to null zone as it doesnt target you the squad.

Second I don't use pieplates, Just heavy fire via dakka Preds and Krak missles, las plas razorbacks.

with IG, psyker Battle squads are my friend, I normally run 2 and more dakka than I know what to do with.

Wolves have never been a problem, just have to prioritize and deploy properly

Thunder wolf Cavalry aren’t invincible despite what others may claim and there are quite a few ways to deal with them.

Generally and this applies to all expensive units, your opponent can fall into the classic trap of spending too many points for a hammer/death star units, leaving other parts of the army under equipped. Depending on the game, this can give the player various options (For example: stalling the thunder cavalry with a sacrificial unit whilst minimalist enemy scoring units are targeted).

With thunder wolves, your primary purpose would be to avoid the opponent charging what they want to charge. As Nurglitch has already stated, Thunder wolves are only effective in CC and thus you would want to minimise this whenever possible.

I can definitely see something along the lines of Vindicators, pie plate spam and what not making short work of the unit. Despite what has been said, Space Wolf storm shields are ridiculously expensive and unless the opponent is running a high risk death star (with bloated point cost to boot), I can’t see the unit carrying too many as anti firepower deterrents.

Good to see that if i were to finally do that space wolf army i had been meaning to do since the codex before this (i have it still sitting there and i admire the pictures from time to time!) It would be just as (insanely?) powerful as I thought. didn't think my ability to paint hair or faces was good enough yet, so i have put it off. Just as well. I'll wait for the "OMG Thunderwolves are slowed" rabble to go away
I actually think all the conversions people did (and 3rd party wolf mounts) are pretty badass.I'll just bide my time until people are distracted by other codexes.. "omg grey knights are OP and necrons are unstoppable" lol

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you

First, ThunderCav can be a pain in your side if you don't get rid of them in the first two turns, and most of the time your not going to be able to. Pie Plate spam seen them, dealt with them< everyone here has answer for dealing with THunderCav, but what you failed to understand the point is, how many of ya'll every face 7 ThunderCav w/ 3 Lord attached with them, or my other list that contends 10 thundercav/with 2 lords. there other thing is that ya'lls dont know ior see is my list. What I'm seeing here is a METAGAME, in Tournament play your never know what your opponent is going to bring, its a guesting game. When I enter in a Tournament for the first time and my oppoenent see my list, they $hit in their pants and wonder if they can handle it. One player at a Tounery was afraid that his Terms/SS/Thunderhammer were going to die in one turn...and they did. Yes the ThunderCav is one of the Greatest CC, and I can get there fast 6 movement, Fleet and 12' Charges. By the Way Null Zone does effect my unit so therfore i can use my WolfNecklace against it.

the tooth doesnt do jack to null zone, as it doesnt target your unit ...

Wrong again, Wolf tail talisman states the follwing. If a model with a Wolf tail talisman or the unit he is with is affected by an enemy psychic power.

It states nothing about anything targeting me, since Null Zone is a blanket affect and is going to affected me I can use the Wolf Tail talisman against it.
