from what i just read (in the minor chaos gods bit) there were renegade chaos marines. How do Chaos Marines (who are already renegade) manage to go renegade?

It is finished. What is finished?
Much is finished known or unknown:

too small to bother with. It's funny because they were who I started out to build. How I got to Necrons is anyones guess

Renegade Chaos Marines are Chaos Marines that go against Chaos by worshipping Malal. Their goal is to destroy Chaos with Chaos.

But once again, most, if not all, of Malal's official fluff legally don't exist in GW's 40k-verse, so the fluff you find about him on Lexicanum and other sites are basically non-credible.

They don't? I was pretty sure there was a short story on the sons of Malice in one of the space marine novels (Heroes of the space marines?) And about how they summoned their god into an avatar or something like that

Should be ok if it's BL stuff, so as long as it's not Goto. Point me in the direction of this story if you will, I'd like to read it.

Considering Chaos gods exist in the warp and therefore also exist at all points in time they existed before they existed.

With this being the case I propose we all agree that in the future Slaanesh will give birth to the other three back in the past. Thereby between our constant meddling, and having inevitably caused all four of the chaos gods to be born, we can all simplify 40k lore by saying that the Eldar are at the root of every problem in the universe. Except maybe the 'nids.

Yes it's in the Heroes of the Space Marines.

It is under the story the Labyrinth by Richard Ford.

I believe that the first 3 chaos Gods (Khorne, Tzeentch, and Nurgle), began their formation during the War in Heaven. Up until that point, the Universe had really only seen a few primitive species, the C'Tan (locked away in their star-prisons), the Necrontyr, and the Old Ones.

Long story made short - Necrontyr find C'tan, C'tan betray Necrontyr, Old Ones fight Necrons by developing the primitive races, manipulation of the Warp begins in earnest, and things start to go bad. Old Ones are gone, thanks to an Enslaver infestation. Eldar develop, number in the trillions, go nuts, create Slaanesh. Age of Strife ends, and Humanity, led by the Emperor, starts the great crusade.

Edit: As for Malal, if GW ever did a 'End of the 41st Millienium' story, I'd love to see him take a role. Imagine, the Emperor reborn from the Star Child, Ynnead, forged from the souls of the Eldar race after completely dying out, and Malal going head to head with Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh. Epic.

Eye of Terror... I think

Slaanesh always was and always will be...

In theory the chaos god always were as long as there was a warp all 4 were there. Just to greater and lesser degrees. Slaanesh really didnt come to ascendence till the rise of the eldar empire though as slaanesh was never fed by so much excess and hedonism till then.

They existed, they just weren't sentient.

IIRC, Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeentch gained sentience sometime in M21 (middle ages) as their domains were so important, while Slaanesh only actually gained sentience at the Fall. They all existed prior, they just actually become sentient gods at a specific point.

They were all a big mass of Chaotic Chaos, until they became sentient and hated eachother like they do everything else.

Through our sentience they were given sentience. Through our free will to commit various attrocities they were given character.

They may have always been around, but they were not distinct as they are now.
