Looking great (coats)!

Trying to get my hands on some more greenstuff, but none of the game stores around here open until later in the day... Lazy gamer-run LGS's!!! I hope I don't have to go to a fancypants art store or Michaels and get "greystuff" or something like that... I just got used to the consistency of GS and don't want to have to change.

In order to make my Specialist weaponry, I decided to forgo using the expensive GW meltagun bits and go for a more customized version. Pictured here is what I was searching high and low for greenstuff for. I will have to leave these troopers unpainted and unfinished until I can get my hands on some greenstuff to make the needed adjustments.

Got all the infantry assembled and based; ready for priming tomorrow. I was feeling crummy so no pictures on account of my laziness from infirmity. I even finished some diorama styled HWTs made from leftover bits I had lying around...

Finally, some progress! I've been sick all weekend, but I finally got some work done on this project. I spent a few hours fiddling with a paint scheme I liked, and finally came up with this:



I had tried other variations of this scheme, such as khaki colored armor plates, but in the end I preferred this one the most. Now that I have a completed model, I must say that I am quite pleased with the look the new heads give the models. I look forward to having them all painted!

Looks good! Did you try doing the armor plates in a dark green, and doing the coat in a dark brown? I believe that would most resemble the "Russian" 40k look. But what I see I like very much.

I am trying to do a more olive drab scheme for the coats themselves, such as they wore during WW2:



I may need to follow up with another Devlan Mud wash, I'm not sure yet.

Eh.... Comparing my paint scheme to the photos we both dug up, I'm not really close at all! Oh well, they match the vendetta I painted, and since that beast took me hours I'd rather match my army to it rather than the other way around!

In other news, the post delivered both my two Leman Russes and one of the three Chimeras I got in trades today. The Russes will need stripping, but the chimera was decent enough to start painting right away. I'm taking a break, as I had just finished the basecoat. I think I'll save the details for after I complete an infantry squad (of which I am already halfway done). Pictures as soon as I have something worth showing!

Got some tanks on the table... Getting to refurbish them between bouts of infantry painting.

Yesterday I was experimenting with rust weathering, and I must say I'm fairly pleased with the results. The first chimera is mostly done now, I may add things to it at random until I'm totally satisfied with it. For now though it is table-top ready at least. Here are some pictures of the free-handing I did on it:

I like the combo of the Great Coat Troopers and the Pig Iron heads. The colour scheme also works well looking realistic and interesting.

nice! try putting some gloss varnish on the eyes, that might look better.

I've been taking a break recently, but with the army's first game tomorrow I better get the lead out. I want to at least have all the tanks painted green! I'll post updates as I can, but expect me to be putting nose to the grindstone until after the morrow!

GREAT THEME! You made those models look great! I love pig-iron heads. I was unsure of the bodies/weapons but now that you have them painted I see that I was mistaken. They look Great!

UPDATE: I'm resurrecting this thread because I might be able to play a game with them on friday. I've sold some of the tanks to pay some bills, but I also received a lot of interesting models over christmas and my birthday in the months since my last post. I'll post some pictures as I get stuff done... not much time to do a lot!

They look ace dude! Pig iron heads are really cool and the bases look mad, its supposed to be leaf litter right? U never see autumn bases and i think they look cool.

I didn't get to game with them, but I am now determined to finish painting this army so that I can either play with it as a finished army or sell it and start a new one!

If I were to sell: How much do you think I should charge for the Vendetta, 3 chimeras, 3 greatcoat squads, a leman russ, and the medusa, if they are all painted to the quality shown in earlier posts?

Pretty cool medusa conversion. Since everything is painted already, maybe near/above retail value? I'm not very good at prices
