Is there a reason why specific Chaos Marine Chapters don't have a codex of their own??  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Seems like back in 4ed GW was moving towards more homogenous armies, and that's why they gutted CSM for the 4ed codex and seperated daemons. Now for 5th edition they seem to have done an about face, and are writing codices to be as broken as possible with the goal of selling as many "special" minis as possible. I have a sinking feeling that when Chaos gets it's turn again, GW will be moving back towards lame duck books, thus screwing chaos players all over again.

To be fair though, CSM is still a very competative book. Just very boring.

What is the difference between SMs and Dark Angels exactly? First it was the long range dreadnought, then it was plasma weapons I think, but aside from the special organisations of the first and second company (and now that SMs have Bikes for troops too that doesnt really matter) there doesnt seem to be any difference at all.

Basically it was just FoC swapping, that was it. Which is why its silly to have so many disparate SM books. DA's have a preference for plasma weapons a bit more than other chapters, but that's simply reflected in loadout nothing else.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

The only extra plasma gadgets they get is the Master of Ravenwing's Plasma Cannon Jetbike, and even that is outbeat by the wolves (again!) due to bjorn having the same thing (but better due to his BS6).

If you brought all the wargear in line with the new C:SM codex then differences are:
Special Character that makes termies troops
Special Character that makes ravenwing troops (including land speeders!)
Termie squads can mix CC and shooting weps
Ravenwing squads
Hunt the Fallen special rule

That would make a great WD article / download.

And the reason that DA is so similar to the 5th ed Marine Codex? They took all the good stuff from the 4th ed DA codex, gave it steroids and put it in C:SM!

They should go 'generic marines','we might be evil marines' 'religous zealot marines' 'melee flawed marines', 'viking marines' and 'we have demon marines' then allow people to use any 1 of the codieces and fluff their army accordingly.

Black Legion, Alpha Legion(We might be good marines), Word Bearers, World Eaters and the last one isn't so viable as it would be Word Bearers again. Night Lords are better fluff-wise and gives GW a good reason to fix CSM's FA options.

More codices in general would be nice but it would most likely add to the clutter of the update schedule. I’d rather prefer FW/WD release additional errata/add on rules instead.

It's mainly why people clamore for one big "Space Marine" and "Chaos Space Marine" book instead of individual codexes. That way all of the equipment are consistent between the armies and drastically shortens update schedules. One book means there's a standardized line for all of the equipment (so we dont have Dark Angels suffering from bad Storm Shields and Apothecaries, and no more QQing about other chapters not having the Stormraven).

I could care less about multiple CSM codexes...We really need the EOT codex back.

Or anything that lets you take traitor guardsmen and all that good stuff, now THAT would be appropriate for a WD-army. Even if WD did something like a 'adapting your CSM army for word bearers/ iron warriors/death guard ", I would be happy.

I sense much sarcasm in this one

LaTD was just a cool army. If it could be anything like our current IG, it would be pretty amazing. I could see an article where it basically just says: "Use the IG codex, and exchange these units and SRs for these, yaddayadda"

Actually, I was serious.

I liked LaTD a lot. The Eye of Terror needs to come back in a big way.
