Where does it say what material the wings are made of?

Most likely they are a sci-fi carbon fiber that weighs next to nothing.

They may even be functional. Part of the DeepStrike accuracy ability.

IoM stuff is usually encrusted with symbology of various types.

The wings could be made functional -- radiators or something like that.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The Blood Angels are obsessed with aesthetics, the beauty of the human form, and master artisanship - in that context the wings (and sculpted nipples/six packs) make perfect sense.

Within the context of the Warhammer 40K universe, anything makes perfect sense... except deep striking Land Raiders. That's just silly

It's funny to me how many people complain about the deep striking land raider thing. I can't imagine anyone actually deepstriking one in a real game.
Ya, you can take teleport homers and what not, but that's just points that you have to add on top of the cost of the already expensive unit you stuffed in there. And if they kill your teleport homered drop pod or scouts, then the risks you are taking of mishapping your (most likely 400 points at minimum) unit are very large. What I'm saying is the reward of deploying your LR into enemy lines does not equal the risk.

Yeah. You're actually right. Hadn't thought of that.

We've been over this before - it doesn't matter how sound or how broken or how useless the rule is, if it is a stupid concept, it fails anyway. We don't care that 'no one' does it - it could be the worst strategy in the whole Codex for all we care - but Deep Striking Land Raiders is just SILLY.

I don't know, I still think of it as a T-hawk transporter dropping off the Land Raider from low altitude. That's kind of a cool visual in my mind.

Yes. It does. As per the picture.

But the "Deep Strike" in the BA rulebook doesn't really conjure that for most of us.

A Fire Prism that doesn't fall over. Yay!
Guard players no doubt thought some of the other artillery tanks (i.e. Collosus) were more deserving of new kits
A not particularly inspiring rule set blatantly designed to shift big plastic kits

The utterly uninspiring Deathstrike and Manticore kits were in short... an abomination! More like fisher price 40k. Agreed, there were more worthy vehicle but the manticore itself is a popular inclusion in lots of imp guard forces, poorly executed by GW. I'd have like to have seen a more inclusive kit upgrading the Basilisk, which was a waste of time, to include griffons, the collosus and Hydra etc.

Nice thread

Hell, I would do it, just to see the other guy's face if it worked.

I don't have a Dangles army though.
