Well, you've got to have at least two suicide units for the two units in the Raven. Then you need to remember that it's a skimmer, and can so just fly over your troops. This means that either you're hemmed into a corner, in which case BA wins, or you have the most ludicrous suicide pike square wandering up the field.

All this also assumes that the suicide units don't get, say, shot, leaving a hole for stuff to multi-assault through.

A Dreadnought with blood talons cannot do much to vehicles, including (critically) another Dreadnought. Though the talons add massively to one's ability to take out infantry, mech is prevalent enough these days that I don't think they are an all-comers choice. The standard Dreadnought equipment also grants strength 10, which can be more important than one might expect these days.

Well spoken, having built 2 of these, and played them in several for fun and tourney level games I completely agree. The short ranged meltagun they can carry is not a sure thing vs armor as it needs the 6 inches, and they;re not so great against tanks. The standard one is cheaper and comes with S10 and a multimelta at 12 inches making it arguably a little more capable as a double threat vs armor.

OT:

IMO a std old drop pod is much better for these than a Stromraven is and I usually play at least a pair (with 3 pods total, so the 2 come in together every time. Even that is, ok, because so many armies are mech'd up.

I demolish a 10 model unit of Wraithguard with one once, that was pretty cool! But I also had to play them vs 3 chaos Landraiders once with Abadon, and they were very bleh.

A skimmer can fly over units. However, considering the units cannot assault should the Stormraven move *more* than 12 inches, and in terms of assault delivery, it's really no different than defending against a Battlewagon full of Waaaghing Orks.

Also, for the points invested in delivering two melee beatsticks in a single transport, you won't be outshooting me.

have seen it being used. For 200pts it is actually quite good. If only for turn one charge!

I'm not a big fan of bringing a Death Company Dreadnought and Death Company, so the 26.5 inch average threat range from off the board doesn't impress me as much.

It is especially uninspiring in smaller games that aren't Capture and Control. Missions where the enemy can assume a Refused Flank and wait for you to arrive piecemeal isn't fun times for the Stormraven out of reserves.

On the other hand, deploying it directly if you have first turn projects a lot of power. A 23 inch threat range with an ordinary Furioso Dreadnought is pretty menacing assuming your opponent doesn't seize the initiative and beach your AV12 flying whale in his first volley.
