Michael Bay wrote:Indeed, Bay himself made his disdain for the 2009 film well known to us, bemoaning the Writers Strike that left them tethered to a weak screenplay and the overall "dorkiness" (his phrase) of its humor. Bay vows that in the third film, death is final and the Decepticons mean effin' business. And no dorky humor.
Bay said that the footage he showed us wasn't necessarily representative of the film as a whole, in that he wanted more character moments and more peppering of action sequences throughout with a build-up to a hell's bells, balls-to the-walls finale unlike the incessant shoot 'em-up of the last film.
I wonder if there could be any other motivation or reason to use the Writer's Strike as the reason for such a poor movie. It also couldn't be that they rushed a movie through without a script? Rush in, make bad movie, blame writers? Makes a lot of sense. It would also be easier to accept if there was that 'dorky' humor in the first movie as well. Remember Bumblebee peeing on the agent?
Micheal bay wouldn't know a character moment if Terence Mallik walked and slapped him in the face with it. He hasn't done one yet in his career, why would he now?

Considering Bay was credited with writing much of the final draft himself, coming out and blaming the script of the second film seems an odd mistake. And while the script was very weak, I've enjoyed a lot mindless action movies with scripts that bad because they still kept a sense of fun, and had decent action scenes. But the second Transformers movie was really mean spirited and really, really not funny, and the action scenes, despite the fortune spent on rendering I couldn't follow what was happening in the action scenes at all.
And the blame for all of that really needs to fall on the director.

Funnily enough, when Transformer II opened to poor reviews Bay started saying that directing films like that was much harder than smaller projects, that it was easy to just film a scene with people talking. While there is certainly skill involved in bringing a mega-budget effects heavy film in on-time and on-budget, it's really not the same thing as actually directing actors to give convincing performances.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I am going to put this out since this seems like an interesting question, if someone else could have directed the movies, who should it have been?

Not enough Starscream, too many humans. Then when we do get Starscream he is totally not the same character. Not just the voice, just his general actions. Starscream is a just a bitch in the movies, there is none of his confidence or aspects of betrayal.
BEST VOICE EVER!
As for the movie? Neil Armstrong finds Transformers on the moon?
We're Transformers on the moon...
Also what was up with Soundwave sexually harassing satelites in the second movie?
Ok, I liked Soundwave in the movie actually. It fit. let the clumsy contructicons be heavies. Soundwave was a thinker.
Soundwave superior, Constructicons inferior.

Hmmm. so another piece of 80's canon, this time the Ark, slapped into the movie and made somewhat suckier. Just like the Matrix of Leadership and the Hoover dam.

Got my fingers crossed, but Revenge burned me and now I deeply mistrust Michael Bay.
At leat I'll always have the 1985 animated movie .
He also stated an intense dislike of 3D and a frank refusal to do it in any of his films - yet here we are :(

Cant wait for this. looks epic.
While the first film may be subjective, with the second film you are objectively wrong. Men in lab coats have proved Revenge of the Fallen is a bad film.

Man that voice is awesome, it just helps prove how much better the cartoons are than the Bay adaptations.

if i recall correctly, Frank Welker, the voice actor who did Megatron in the original cartoon series also did Starscream and Soundwave. the guy is just awesome.
the rumor mill had it he also auditioned for megatron in the Bay films and was for some reason I don't understand rejected in favour of hugo weaving (who, while respectable, just wasn't the guy to replace Welker).
michael bay sucks, the first two films sucked, i'll stick to my old G1 cartoons. better music, better characters, better storytelling. lol.
Looks intresting... But I didn't like the 2nd one,it was...ugg...But I'm hoping this one wont kill the genre, cuz I like Transformers, until the movies came out were they geared it to two year olds or some sh$t,were I became a little embaressed of liking it. It's the same with Star Wars :( .

The Voice of Starscream was Chris Latta, he is dead.
Frank Welker was not wanted, as the voice 'did not fit' according to Bay.

Oh and you forgot better action scenes, I can't stand how Michael Bay has to make all his fighting scenes with the Transformers franchise indescribable blur fests. How can you enjoy the movie if you don't even know what you're looking at?

I will defend Bay on this scene. Bonecrusher Vs. Prime. AWESOME ROBOT ULTRA-VIOLENCE.
BLOODY HELL!
Also the way that Jazz does the Kup attack thingy-ma-bob.
Yes, he can occasionally make something cool. #1 had some good scenes to it. #2... not so much. It could be said that he is missing more than he is hitting.
I couldn't care less about the plot/stupid jokes/awful writing of the second movie. It was a terrible film. I admit that.
But the only thing I wanted to see was robots beating the hell out of each other and I got what I wanted. Therefore I am a satisfied customer of both films.
And I am going to go see this one, terribad title and everything, because of one single reason:
This guy, right here. Shockwave's supposed to be in it and he's my favorite Transformer by far. I don't even care about the rest, I just want to see him going nuts on everything.
Ouze on GW: "I'd like to be like, hey baby, you're a freak but you just got too much crazy going on, and I don't hook up with bunny boilers. But then Necrons are going to come out, and I'm going to be like damn girl, and then next thing you know, it's angry sex time again.
It's complicated."

Totally agree. This is the best scene out of both films so far. Short, bit extremely sweet! I still think Bay was spot on the money on Transformers 1 and it was a brilliant film, I don't think it could have been handled any better. Which is why Revenge hurt so much.
On the whole Frank Welker topic, if you bought the Cyberton edition of the first transformers game there are extras which include an interview with Frank on this subject. He said he was approached by Bay, but he couldn't do the Megatron voice in a way that was suitable for the new film. Frank goes on to say that he agreed he wasn't right for the voice of the new Megatron as a lifetime of voice acting has taken it's toll on his throat and he can't even do the G1 cartoon voice properly anymore. If you play the first Transformers film game he does the voice for Megatron (I assume Hugo Weaving didn't want to) and he does it in the style of G1, but it isn't the same. Sounds like Megatron got old. On the other hand though he does loads of voices in the two films, for instance he voices Soundwave in Revenge. Mind you as awsome as Peter Cullen is as Prime (could never be anyone else), when you go back to the G1 cartoon his voice has changed with age. Back in the day Optimus Prime was pretty much an impression of John Wayne!
