I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that Collossus can only fire indirect. meaning any infantry models within 24 inches of its minimum range will not have to fear it.

Unless you use it as a tank cannon and not a barrage. Then theres no minimum range and they die

No, actually under the colossus siege mortar there's a little asterisk and it says that the tank cannot fire directly. It's the main reason i wont take one, plus the price tag. I prefer the good old fashioned basilisk or the Medusa for tank blowing up fun.

I'll weigh in as a fan of the Colossus. The minimum range has seldom been a problem. And while the enemy might TRY to hide in transports, IG are very good at opening up tin cans. Being able to drop a large blast on a MEQ unit and know that (barring invuls) they aren't going to get a save makes it worth it to me.

Massed missile launchers, autocannons, or Hydras does the trick. What you need is volume of fire instead of strength of shot to kill Eldar.

Eh, I've had good luck with missiles against Eldar, so I consider them a viable option. Could just be me though.

Yep, missile launchers work quite well against Eldar. St 8 so the field has no effect on the strength, Bring It Down makes them twin linked to increase hit probability, and the extra point of strength means a better chance of penetrating. Sure, autocannons are OK, but need that 6 to pen. I'd rather have a 1 in 3 chance, thank you.

1/6 x 2 = 1/3 x 1

Autocannons are just as good at penetrating AV12 as missile launchers because they get two shots. They are slightly superior at glancing AV12 than missile launchers, again because they get two shots. Then when you look at the statistical outliers, you must consider that the autocannon can potentially get twice as many penetrating hits as the missile launcher, and again you're left with the simple fact that autocannon > missile launcher for anything AV12 or under. AV13+, use meltas or massed lascannons.
