Ah but most wargamers like a herd to hide in as it safety in numbers ! i meen what if a non wargamer was to come into the store and see them {or a girl !!!}lol .
rather than playing at home where they actualy have to interact with others or a club where they have to play the game !
its much easyer to just hang around the herd and treat it as a non threatoning social event in a safe atmosphere ...

thats fine but it needs to happen somwhere else otherwise you know that strange fat/smelly/flacky/ 40old neckbeard bloke who comes in to the store and gives you avaricious glances as he tells you about what it was like in the good old of games workshop while he waits for his mum to do the shopping as he has no where else to go !

that my robin will be you !! in 20 yrs time telling all the slightly uneasy younguns about when you could get models in metel !!
you need more social interaction on your days off than sitting in a gw store with your mates all day .....

p.s wow i sound like my dad {but with alot less folksy wisdom and f words}

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

First we rarely get anything resembling a FLGS in the UK, you have Games Workshops everywhere, and thats that. By any large each major city has one 'FLGS', Ork's Nest doesn't count it has no gaming area besides it cannot ever really be classified as friendly.

So there is an FLGS in Birmingham one in Manchester etc, in factv those are the only ones i know iof personally. Though there is a new one in London, that I havent seen yet Dark Sphere or something like that.

Frankly they are here to stay, even with a declning population of gamers who do not trade exclusively online. With such large catchments a one per city gaming store venue is easily sustainable.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Just my two cents but there must be a local gaming club set up in your area?

I have had the problem of having no where to play as my local GW have their gaming nights on a Tuesday and unfortunately I play fives that night

Upon picking up a recent issue of White Dwarf however they do supply a list of contacts for gaming clubs across the country, I never knew that there was one in Dundee but I now have a contact number and an email for the guy who runs the club (still to call as only just getting back into the hobby and need to get some free time!)

I don't have the same problem as not being allowed to loiter, my local GW up here in Dundee is great and I generally only go in on my lunch from work for a quick chat to the manager/staff or plan my next purchase, it is generally quite quiet then and don't go in when its busy, like a lot of posters have already stated the staff will have their minds on other things like driving sales etc during the busy period so it is just common courtesy.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Start a club.

Any town with a population of over 10,000 should have community halls and the potential for enough wargamers to have a club.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

So... in a GW shop you're not allowed to chat with your friends occupying space and buying nothing?
... so you're not allowed to be unpolite???
That seems normal to me... if you want a place to play with your friends doing whatever you want, go in your own place... your home, rent a garage...
If you go in a store you have to follow some basic rules of common living... The emloyes are there for job ( a nice and funny job... but it's still a job) so you have to respect them and their shop just as any other worker or business.
I live in Italy so things may be different from UK or US but I've never been treated unpolitely in any gaming shop or GW.

Rarely? What? Have you looked in the back of the White Dwarf? I bet a fair few of those independent stockists either play or know of where to play. Where I'm from they only just selling Warhammer but are more than happy to set a table up for people to play (free advertising with less push than GW I guess), and Peterborough is in the sticks.
A model shop in Poole told me about a gaming function set up in Bournemouth at a hotel on thursdays, as well as the late night stuff at Poole GW.

Just ask at stockists if they know about any clubs.

I think it's more of a current region issue.

I've never seen anything like that around here.

Thats the most insane thing ive ever heard of. It seems a company such as GW would want as many people in the store as possible to draw attention to themselves. The more people in the store, the more likely others will come in and see what GW is all about.

Yeah the OPS not talking about a FLGS but a GW and they are run as shops .
hell my mates old FLGS used to have a pc network on the ground floor{ this was 2000/2003 so pcs wernt in the home like that} for playing games mainly counter strike and unreal etc .
a well stocked shop with two demo tables and a dozen large tables for people to play on upstairs and a members lounge/dvd/sky/playstation room and a kitchen so was run as a "come round and hang out place" unlike the GW down the road .

and in the end it was just full of people hangin out {even ones that didnt play} and dinnt make any money
and as most GWs are going single staff they wont be able to police groups of kids in store so its gona be the way of the future im afraid ..
