as promised, here's some in game shots of the army, playing my friends black templars:

Here's a shot of the army, it's 1750 pts:

and the army it was up against:

Here's the terminators attempting to hit a chaplain dreadnought with hammers, they never did manage to kill it!

and the latest tactical squad holding an objective (this wasn't set up, honest)

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Just to point out how geeky I am, just look at my dice:

and another tactical squad about to take a charge, they died shortly afterwards!

It was a Draw in the end, and after 4 games, I learned that siege dreadnoughts are truly useless.

In terms of painting, i've started on the other half of the tactical squad, and started work on a special chaplain based on a mk 4 marine from forgeworld, I'll probably post photos tomorrow night.

OOH, Shiny new toys!

I went and bought a Land Raider Crusader, even though I couldn't afford it!, but oh well, I guess that means I should do a really good job on it, so I did some custom doors out of plasticard and even though it's a bit pointless, I did the inside:

I don't have much to do at the moment, so, I spent all day painting it, and what did I learn, well, lots of liturgies and weathering cover up crap painting quite well, so heres some almost finished exterior shots:

More to come...

I am rather fond of it!

I expected to see more blue on it actually. Maybe some on the front as it looks rather white rather than novamarine.

just my 2 cents worth!

I've been a bit distracted over the past couple of days.

The reason?

Minotaurs!

Not the warhammer fantasy model, but the slightly controversial space marine chapter which happens to look really cool.

It all started when I got the second badab war book, personally I didn't find the new book quite as engaging as the first, but that's probably due to it's distinct lack of Novamarines. However, whenever I did take a look at it I kept looking back to the Minotaurs section and admired their paint scheme and background, a sign I think. So I decided to paint up a squad, I chose the second veteran squad which GW released alongside apocalypse a couple of years ago because I think their awesome models, so anyway, here's some photos:

The whole squad:

The sergeant, armed with a relic blade which I stole from an old emperor's champion:

A nice looking random power weapon guy:

And another guy made from one of the old veteran sergeant models:

They where really fun to paint, but I doubt I'll do a whole army (but I might use the scheme on an all sanguinary guard army at some point)

Anyway, I should probably get back to the Novamarines really, but not now...

Love your Novamarines Cvife, really nice modeling and painting, but your White Minotaurs have really got my attention!
Thinking of painting some myself (test for an army), but I haven't got the IA10 or the HTPSM books so could you tell what undercoat and paints you used please?
I'm thinking Chaos Black undercoat, Shining Gold with Burnished Gold highlights, Mechrite Red with Blood Red highlights, and Enchanted Blue?

Wrong!

It's actually chainmail with 2 washes of gryphonne sepia, and a mix on asurman blue and thraka green in the recesses, but your about right with the red and blue (in hindsight I think green may work better then blue as a spot color)

I hope that helps!

Wow, I'd never have guessed, thank you for the quick reply too
Bidding on some SM bitz at the moment, I'll have a go when they arrive, prob try it with the gold paint first as I've got both shades.
As I said before, yours really look great, maybe the way I will have to go

Hey Cvife, I have a Badab War Blog too. I'd be delighted to have you stop in there. It is still early days yet though... I am building secessionist forces rather than loyalist.

I like your Novamarines, but I love your Minotaurs. The gold looks really good with the wash method. The red really works well with it. You are only in Brighton. Maybe one day we can do some Badab War matchups!

With the number of Badab Blogs starting on Dakka, I am starting to think we ought to have a centralised forum all of our very own!!!

Mostly, on my phone.

Outstanding weathering on the Novas; I also love the shading on the gold on the Minotaurs - sub'd, my man, so very sub'd.

I've been thinking, not that I'm doubting but will chainmail and 2 washes of sepia get that dull copper/bronze Color scheme ya got there? Kinda simpler than I thought

Really like the Novamarines and Minotaurs - clean up those random leg moldlines, such a shame to see them on such nicely done models.

Weathering on the landraider is perfectly done.

It's been a little bit of a while since I've posted, but that's what exams do to people.

I have been busy though, here's some shots of what I've been up to:

I've just about finished the tactical squad with the exception of some final details such as eyes and static grass on the base, but here's the photo:

And the most recently finished stuff:

I've finished the 'normal' dreadnought (just about):

And finally, just because I think I's needed at the moment, an army shot (not all of it, just the new good looking stuff):

I've got a pack of MK3 armor on order which I'm going to use for the extra 5 men in a devastator squad as well as the 2nd captain, I should have an update after the weekend.

Anyway, what are peoples thoughts?

I'm thinking I hate you for painting so much quicker and so much better than me

Seriously though very impressive work rate and the standard you are achieving with that speed is also very commendable. Nice job. Seeing as how you are a fan of the ole FW stuff have you considered getting the Ram? Possibly my favour FW model at the moment.

Yay, time for new stuff!, well, sort of new stuff! well, re-paints...yay!

I have a game of spearhead tomorrow and i've decided that it would be quite fun to use the Outrider Spearhead, which consists of one vehicle of one type and two vehicles of another type which act like an escort to the main vehicle. So based on this idea I wanted to take a Land Raider Crusader full of terminators protected by a couple of land speeders.

But to do that I needed some Land Speeders, Enter crappy looking old white scars Land Speeders which have been sitting in storage and need re-painting!

So heres the result, please note that these took me about 2 hours and are a strictly gaming standard:

and with the land raider, I think it looks pretty cool!:

And as a final thing, heres a photo of a new captain I made, he has a Jump Pack so I can only assume he's the captain of the 8th:

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

ON the normal marines it looks like you've weathered the cream colour heavily and barely done the blue. Which frankly looks odd. The weathering on the Cream looks great, there just needs to be more continuity over the whole model. Its the same on the Dread also.

time for more stuff again!

I've finished painting the new captain (well almost), I chose to give him gold trim this time as apposed to the silver trim I normally use.

Here he is alongside a contemporary from the black templars:

And about to engage a Minotaur in combat:

More to come:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
After I did that gold trim, I decided it looked better then the silver, so I did the same on captain Blaylock, and I think it's a good improvement:

here's the two captains together:

and finally, I did more work on the Thunder Hammer Terminators, with the main point being the helmet on the sergeant and removing some annoying mold lines on the hammers:

They just need a spot of weathering now!

any comments?

I'm liking the gold trim on your captains. And Blaylock... that reminds me of a security officer back at my former high school by the same name.

Some good terminators, and though it seems like it would be a cool thing for the term sergeant to have a halved helmet (white on the left, red on the right), I'm guessing the appropriate protocol in the Novamarines for sergeant helmets is the same as Ultramarines? My Badab War colour scheme knowledge is general, at best, though iirc the Novamarines are an Ultramarine founded chapter, aren't they?

In the limited experience I've had with resin, a good super glue seems to work.

As to the thread, this stuff looks great! the brassy colour is beautiful.
