That's really cool fluff! But I don't think my question was specific enough, for which I apologize.

I meant to ask you how, if at all, you visually incorporate marines from specific chapters into your army. From what you've written, it seems like you don't, but instead all of your marines start out as an oblate, regardless of former chapter correct?

I really like the idea of adding color as an award. I do something similar with my marines currently, where I have sets of dice that are given a number, which then correlates to a member of a squad, and keep track of how many kills a model racks up, giving them awards and, on rare occasions, promoting them to squad leaders.

That's pretty much it. Various chapters are not individually represented. Once you become and Oblate, you are the lowest of the low, given new, raw, unpainted power armor and forced to earn any decoration, special/heavy weapons, or honors.

Now, if you wanted to include various chapters in a single army, there's definitely precedent for that. A crusade force will contain all sorts of Marines. If you want to go that route, give them all a "crusade badge." A little icon or emblem that you paint onto every Marine that signifies their participation in the crusade.

"Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes."

Nice stuff guys. I like where you went with this while I was out
You could do something a bit like the deathwatch, have a unified colour scheme but keep the chapter icons on the pads
Shealyr's suggestion of a crusade badge also sounds pretty cool!

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you

I think I'm going to go with the crusade badge idea. Part of the alure, for me at least, of building a bunch of different chapters in the same army is that I will get to experiment with a bunch of different color schemes ( I get bored easily).

So here's my list of the finalists. All caps are the ones that I will definitely be doing, and the rest are ones that could possibly be runners up. (though I doubt I will do all of the ones that are all caps, let alone those that didn't make the cut)

BLACK CONSULS (MIA/KIA by word bearers while besieged)
13TH COMPANY
LAMENTORS (MIA/Greatly reduced in number due to terrible luck/misguided ideals)
astral claws (Renegade/foresworn. Huron)
Astral Knights (KIA/Necron World engine)
Brazen skulls (extinct/ fought alongside saint sabbat)
Crimson Consuls (I have no idea who these guys are, or why they're in the list)
crimson castellans (KIA/turned renegade/ besieged by nids)
cypher( to include or not include in my army?)
Dragon Lords (contact lost)
Emperor's Swords (World was a necron tomb world (oops)/KIA/canon conflict)
RELICTORS
FLAME FALCONS (Mutated/ Excommunicated)
grey slayers (corrupted/refounded)
Iron Crusaders (MIA when headed to the Ghoul stars)
Iron Hearts (reduced to two, greatly understrength companies/too small to re-build?)
KNIGHTS OF BLOOD (bezerkers deemed to wild to be a part of the imperium/Blood angels,
who else?)
STAR SCORPIONS (geneseed malfunction mumbo jumbo/888th/destroyed during warp transit)
Shadow wolves (nids/KIA)
SONS OF ANTEUS (MIA/Uber buff/greek)
War Hawks (presumed KIA/5th BlackCrusade)
Venerators (presumed KIA/5th BlackCrusade)
WOLF BROTHERS (Dismantled Genetic instability/wulfen. Found in all corners of the galaxy
including EoT)

And now I need color schemes/ dogma for all of the following. feel free to post whatever it is you think these chapters should act like

Black Consuls: Dogma
Lamentors: Dogma
Star Scorpions:dogma
Sons of Anteus: dogma (Stumped, I don't know how to accurately portray guys like this in my army)
Wolf Brothers: both (but they're space wolves... so i don't really need dogma, as I could just make them a cross between 13th company and sw)

The 13th Company doesn't work in this because they aren't "lost" per say. The SW know full well where they are: off in the Eye of Terror kicking some heretic ass and taking some Daemon true names!

The Wolf Brothers were completely and totally eradicated by the Inquisition, not just because of genetic deviation, but rampant genetic instability. In other words, they went ing crazy.

You should also shy away from renegade chapters. When a chapter goes renegade, the Imperium isn't just going to let any who don't follow go free. They'll kill them under the mere suspicion of taint. The =I= doesn't joke around with renegade Astartes.

Well the wolf brothers weren't actually completely eradicated. There was one that appeared in Dead sky Black sun irrc, and where there's one, it's fairly safe to assume there's more.

I actually feel that renegade chapters, that still fight for the emperor, would be great fluff for an army. The whole idea is that I'm using chapters that no longer operate within the imperium, and indeed come to blows with it on occasion. (also, most of my friends are marine players, so this works great )

According to the new SW codex, the name of 13th is applied to any space wolf who has ever gone renegade as well, but I have plenty of painting to do without adding more to my plate .
