I like fatal flaws. A lot of chapters like the Imperial Fists and the Ultra's just dont have those glaring fatal flaws.

The ones that do have a bullet in the belly of the beast bring more to the table in my opinion.

Hell, I am starting a Fire Hawks list as my project for the year. In the fluff they have all but evaporated after the Baddab War which nearly destroyed the chapter...

Fatal flaws are one thing. That's what makes the Blood and Dark Angels so compelling, after all. However, having your defenses so muddled up that it is even remotely possible to blow yourself up is, for a Marine chapter of such renown, laughably stupid. Orks would do something like that, or maybe even IG, but CF? Terrible. Just terrible.

Honestly, I like CF less and less as this thread goes on. If I ever played a C:SM list, I'd probably still want Kantor to lead it, because Sternguard are that cool, but he and his blew it here and trying to scapegoat the Inquisition just makes them look sillier.

I think it works as a fluff piece to set up the chapter's main gimmick - low in numbers, so they're mostly made up of veterans. As far as thinking a chapter is stupid because it's unfortunate, check out the Lamenters. They're hilarious, but I still think they're cool.

EDIT: PS: insulting an army that a lot of people play, especially here on Dakka, is seldom a good idea.

There is nothing stupid about the Crimson Fist's accident at all.
It isn't as though one of the gunners from the fortress decided to see what would happen if he shot a missile straight in to his chapter arsenal!
Anyway the defence systems would be piloted by chapter serfs and hard wired servitors, hardly a CF cock up just a technical glitch.
And comparing them to Ultramarines is completely pointless because there is nothing wrong with the boys in blue to start with.

I have been a fan of the CF since Rogue Trader ( which got me into the hobby ) and liked the Rynns world book a lot.How is an accident "dumb" ? As kizzdougs says, the systems are manned by serfs and hardwired servitors, which are overseen by techmarines, not operated by them.I have not seen any fluff for them helping the inquisition put down renegade SM,is it on Lexicanum ?

A malfunction in the missile defence system that just so happened to hit a point in a weapons cache that blew up the entire fortress monastary in one go seems pretty dumb to me, even from a first person point of view. The Ultramarines at the very least suffered their devastation holding off Hive Fleet Behemoth while the Dark Angels's main disaster was due to half their chapter going rogue (debatable which is the half that remained). Those are tragedies. A random missile accidentally blowing up your armoury, resulting in the destruction of your fortress and over half your chapter, regardless of reason, is a pretty big wtf moment.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
