Actually, having all my IG vary in size ever so slightly from each other would be _REALLY_ cool. I know that's not what you meant, but I'm just sayin'.

have you seen some of the companies offered through
http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/
Personally, Enigma and Hell Dorado miniatures are some brilliant minis. It's almost a shame that Enigma's models are all either 30 or 54mm scales.
Of course, you wont get the sheer number of bits from most other companies that you do from GW, but that alone doesnt make GW the best.
On the whole, GW makes better large unit kits, however there are many companies that make gorgeous single minis, even in the proper scale at times.

As long as I can tell what it is I don't mind if it is GW or not. Painted over unpainted is pretty important though. At least slap some colors on the damn things. It really isn't that hard.

In a tournament I'd have to go with the grey horde because you're in a 'gaming is serious business' mindset and can't be bothered to remember the custom army conversion counts-as.
For any other purpose, and even in some less serious tournaments, though, painted all the way.

Even in a serious tournament, if the counts-as is CLEAR and the sizing very close to the official models, I'd rather face it.
Unpainted armies, for my money, entirely miss the point of the hobby. Heck, I don't like fielding any unpainted models in 'ard boyz, though I've included a few unpainted or non-matching models here and there in that event.

I primarily want to be able to look at a model and tell what it is, what it can do to me, and what I can do to it. So I want a "grot" to look weak and killable, I want a space marine to look big and tough, I want a lascannon to look like a big laser, and so forth. I also want to play an army that looks internally consistent and is consistent with the 40k universe, so I wouldn't want to play an army that's half napoleonic soldiers and half space soldiers, or that's a bunch of the guys from Predator.
So I guess I'd really just say "it depends". I don't really mind unpainted armies, actually, although I hate armies that are just primed black (it's too difficult to tell what anything is).

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |
