You are right in that if you focus your attention on Big Bird you can get lucky and force a check and he dies. But honestly, you are more likely to kill him outright than to make him run away.
Like Italiaplaya said, if you focus everything on Space Chicken, then the rest of the Daemon list is going to rape and pillage. My Missile Wolves pack an insane amount of firepower and I RARELY kill Fateweaver, and when I have done it it has been in HtH. Usually it is a waste of time to shoot him. There are other threats coming at you that you have to deal with besides Birdman, like flying BT, Fiends, DPs, etc. With target saturation Space Chicken drops in the priority list. Haha, have the time just hope he doesn't come in in the preferred wave!
But, no one is hear to convince any of you guys you are wrong. You are free to hold whatever opinion you choose. I feel that Fateweaver is amazingly good, but that is form my experience. YMMV
And Fear of the Darkness wouldn't work. It is a leadership check on -2. Daemons are fearless. Plus, most players don't use that power.
Honestly, if you want to take a unit to fight Big Bird (until the GK codex comes out) bring an inquisitor with mystics, sages and a psycannon. That is the best anti-daemon unit the Imperium has access to apart from a PBS.
