@Fafnir - TWC list are not considered competitive as they are not an all takers list. Blob guard, and mech BA are some of the only balanced builds that trump crons. People like you are the ones crons beat as you relax, get your deployment screwed up, then have monoliths shoved down your throat.

I have not lost a game with Necrons Yet, I have tied but never lost. They are a viable army and once the new codex comes out we might even be better. Then us OG Necrons players will see a huge influx of Nec players thinking its the cool thing to do. Much like everytime a new codex comes out, but the cons have getting lots of hate and find it funny in a couple months they will be King Sh*t.

My only fear is we may end up like the squats soon though.

Never more.

This I doubt a lot. Necrons aren't like any other race in current status. They are enjoyable and can be considered "Evil" but they are still unique. Most of the 40k races are so damn similiar hard to distinguish.

While I dont play necrons, I do have to concur that they do have the ability to curbstomp every single army, even TWCs, into the dirt. Try catching Destroyers harassing you. They will move faster and taunt you with their high toughness (meaning simple shooting wont work) and WBB rolls. Necron Lords with Warscythes backed by Wraiths are even more deadly, and neatly fill out the Close combat role. Likewise, Pariahs are bane to psykers and will also dominate in close combat. They also dont have to worry about ranged combat, as their warscythes have built in ranged weapons and are backed by every other necron in the army.

The main downside with Necrons is that some of the stuff is overpriced in the codex, but no less effective. the C'tan, especially the Nightbringer, is really expensive for what he does. However he is an absolute monster if you dont get rid of him fast. They also lack any customization. Every piece of wargear is representable without conversion and most of the stuff in the codex are not really competing for any particular positions (especially when it gets to lower points, as 500pts of any army WILL be dedicated to the basic compulsory choices).

EDIT: Also, alot of their stuff is really expensive money-wise. Immortals and Pariahs in particular, since they're almost as much as wraith guards.

The old(er) Immortals looked so much more badass than these new(ish) ones.

I dunno, I kinda like the new(er) ones.

In the same vein, does anyone else think Pariahs look like Cybermen from Dr Who?

The older ones were ugly but big. If they could only mix the odl and new together...A Sexy Death Machine is born.

The older ones looked so much more tanky though... Maybe make them a touch smaller but keep the overall design. I would buy the older immortals if i found any.

They go for about £20 for 3... that's sort of good and sort of not.

Amazon sells 3 destroyers for $15+$5 shipping.
$20 for 3 destroyers is pretty good.

Against most of my opponents, my necrons have done well over the years. But we aren't power players. We tend to buy, paint and field units we like and play fluffy even if it risks victory. I played one BA list in 4th, and the guy ended the game turn two, said "yeah, this BA list is broken", and so I didn't play him again - ever. Never played SW either. I guess we just play games to have fun, and win sometimes.
