Not liking that at all.

I like it.

It lives up to the whole retribution aesthetic, specifically the battle mages and magisters, a subset of that.

I definitely understand why others might not like it, as is their opinion.

Whenever I see a retribution model I think sci-fi, not steampunk or fantasy or whatever warmachine is. The models may all fit each other but they definatley do not fit warmachine. This model just adds to that point. I wouldn't say it looks bad but if retribution was for a sci-fi game I doubt very many people would have an issue with it. Compared to those who now are disliking it.

Well, think of it this way.

Not all cultures are alike, and Retribution elves are supposed to be one of the most distant from all of Warmachine. They're about as far removed as all the Hordes armies are.

I bet you could head to China, India, or other areas in the Middle East and see things that look very out of place, well, not so much these days since Euro/America culture is so prevalent, but you get the point.

People accept the Hordes stuff being so different because, they're a different game, but the real reason why the hordes stuff is different is because they're completely different cultures with different aesthetics.

I understand your argument though, after all, I didn't like that Tau all that much when they came out. But they grew on me.

Also, if too many things in a game use the same aesthetic, then it all becomes basically the same.

Look at present day Earth: On this same planet we have space faring civilizations with smart weapons, computers and hi-tech combat vehicles, while a just a short distance away tribes of primatives wearing loin clothes and hunting with improvised weapons live in the jungle as they have for many, many hundreds of years...

Why does a Sci-fi/fantasy setting need be any different?
