I bought 1 special edition when Halo2 came out. I was so pissed at the "extras" it came with. The mark up was totally not worth it one bit. So never again after that

I fell for that one myself.

Na, waste of money.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I have the original WoW:CE, the W:AR CE, the SStar Trek Online Digital Download CE, and the EQ2: Sentinels of Fate CE. Now admittedly the last two I got on huge discount, which is the only reason I got them. The EQ2 one came with a decent little mount mini. Oh yeah, the Diablo II CE.

I also got burned by the Halo 2 CE as well.

Bought the Fable 2 special Edition, the one with the cards, hobbe figure and the llikes, sadly they pulled most of it at the last second, i was more than pissed off. Its rare that i buy a special edition of a game unless its worth it.

Currently have Fable 2, FF13 and Rift(MMORPG) as being collectors/special editions.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

I'm a sucker for OST's, artbooks, and of course extra in-game content. But if a collector's edition only has things like cloth maps, t-shirts, posters, etc, then I'll pass.

Usually I'll buy special editions for fiction series I follow. For example, I bought the WoW collector editions and I'm going to buy the dawn of war retribution collector's edition and the Space Marine game special edition.

Now my two (the WoW ones are pretty much all the same) examples are pretty crappy but I like space marines and WoW so much, I'll compromise for a few art books and posters.

I like playing CoD and Halo but I don't care for their universes that much and their collectors editions have some cool garbage in them too. After all, aren't all these collectors editions mostly aesthetic? Someone pointed out that the in-game bonus items for lots of these games have a short life-span in terms of usefulness.

Usually pre-order bonuses from game-stop have in-game bonus items that give an in-game advantage anyway, not the collectors editions.

I got the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Codex edition.

I was very pleased with what I got. I tend to get the special editions of games I'm highly interested in, but only if they have decent stuff.

I love the art book, I just wish it was bigger.

The Codex Edition isn't the one with the Jack in the Box.

I rarely pick up Collectors Editions, although I've been doing it more as time goes by.

It depends on the series, and how interested I am in the story/art for it. Picked up several Collectors editions for World of Warcraft (Although I ended up handing these over to my wife and getting the normal copy, she wanted the pet more than I did ), as well as Starcraft II.

I've also pre-ordered the Collectors edition for Retribution, and intend on doing so for Space Marine, The Old Republic, DMO, the World of Darkness MMO and Guild Wars 2 if they release one.

Only collector's edition I've ever bought was ME2's, and that was actually unintentional. It's just the only version Wal-Mart had on release day.

I do plan on buying ME3's limited edition though, because Bioware keeps talking about some big, expensive, grande finale item "similar in nature to MW2's working NV goggles". This makes me picture the Limited Edition being shipped out in a replica of Shepard's N7 Helmet instead of a box, and it makes me pitch a tent below the belt.
