Well matey had a hero too, so his treeman would have been rare. Argh, if Dalis is right, he won on an illegal list. Makes me a happier man, will check with the staff tonight.

So to top it off:

Tree man illegal?
chariot killed base dryads with impact hits and 'wasnt allowed' to continue attacks
Forgot demonic attacks and stomp for 6 rounds
didnt know i couldnt cast magic missiles in cc
didnt know I had to have LOS to charge, no matter the distance
didnt allow parry plus MoTz stack for 5+ ward
should have resolved combat as steadfast as I had more than 5 models.

Im going to demand a rematch!

Kspen - remember that you have to have those 5 models in a *line*, as a single rank. You cannot have them {3, 2} as you would not have a single rank (as ranks are 5 or more)

Kspen, now would be a good time to read through your rulebook a bit deeper, as you seem to be a bit loose on the rules. A good few people exist in the hobby whom would gladly take advantage of this.

It's also a good practice to read up on some of the army books you see where to play; having a good idea of which units cannot ever be taken at certain points levels (such as a treeman in 1k) can allow you to call someone out if they try it; similarly so if they lay a new rule on you that you've never heard of, though asking them to show you works just as well; if they can't produce evidence, then tough crap, it doesn't exist. If it's actually a real rule, they should've brought their army book with them anyway; either way it's their own fault.

Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Im with you there. Ive actually won a few books off ebay. Brets came in last night (.99p) and I just won a WE book. Got the empire and DE already, love reading them. Married, working full time , massive rulebook, army books and painting to do, whilst itching just to play games

Its like working 3 jobs..missus, werk n warhammer

The main thing is to read the rulebook while playing games - dont be afraid to stop and get out the rules to check you (or your opponent) are doing something right. Its the easiest and fastest way to learn. AS long as your opponent knows you are new to the game, and are willing to take the extra time (which isnt usually much, once you've got the basics down) then you can learn at a far faster rate.

Finally - if theyre a nice player they will probably be able to give you tips and hints, especially about things that are difficult to convey on a forum. For example deployment is one of the key skills of WHFB, and damned hard to describe on here!

Keep the rule book by the toilet. Seriously. Reading section or so while pinching a deuce will really help you find the little niggling rules buried in the text that a quick scan will miss, without making you bored to tears.

Yes I forgot about the magic weapon and the Glaive..so no Str7 :(

Damn, How to take down a treeman as Chaos in 1k? Im thinking magic, but thats not wholly dependable, then Ill lose combat effectivness by swapping my Exalted for Sorceror.

MoK warriors with GW? I get Str 6 vs T6, so rolling 4s. Tough slog with his saves, not to mention 6 Treekin and over a dozen Dryads with equal statline as my warriors.

Im at odds on how to beat it. Please help.

1,000 points? You don't have to beat a tree man.
A treeman is 285, and can't show up in a 1,000 point game, because you are limited to 250 points of rares.
If a treeman can show up, you should be able to get a chaos lord with a hellfire sword.

A Lord with a Hellfire sword to kill a treeman is a significant waste of points. The lord alone would cost ~250pts, which, whilst less than the treeman, does not take into account any extra equipment such as marks or armour. It's a lot of points to put into a single model dedicated to killing another model it might never get to; having a unit of chaos warriors engage instead means that you've saved 250pts on a dedicated Lord that could be used on a second unit of warriors or something else.

Actually used a Treeman for the first time the other day....just awesome and also can see why in a 1000 point game it would be hard to use if the model was taken.

Yes; it's one of the few things in the Wood Elf book that's still rock solid (though it's probably too costly).

Avatar 720; a Lord with a Hellfire sword probably isn't that bad of an investment overall. Lots of things have Regen, and the Chaos Lord is a pretty sick fighter, and a good, tough general. I wouldn't ever think such a model's sole purpose is to kill that guy; he'll carve through plenty of other stuff too. And against Wood Elves, there's plenty he'll be able to chop down (like the Treekin).

KSpen, it sounds like your opponent is still getting used to 8th edition; a lot of the rules he broke used to be different in 7th. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, at first.
...maybe he is still playing 7th?
Once you've got a few games under your belt, Wood Elves won't be able to stand up to your army very often. They're pretty soft right now, and your army has a ton of teeth.
