Indeed, it is 1:1200 scale if that helps anyone out.

That's great, and all.

But where the heck are the Land unit boxes?! That's what I'm really waiting for.

Yep, they post the Destroyer and Escort previews two days after I cut up some Frigates to make some. On the plus side however, my Destroyers and Escorts weren't (aren't) finished, so now I get some pictures to better base mine on.

I was saddened to learn that Beam Turrets were a description of their location on the ship in nautical terms and that the thing was not actually packing a pair of sponson mounted laser cannons.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm getting those FSA blimps. And the dreadnought!

Now, here's the two reasons why I'm angry at Spartan Games:

1. Land units pushed back. C'mon! Most people have terrain for land battles. I really think Land/Air games are what's really going to push DW.

2. Sea and Air Carriers. Not cool. The Prussians and Asians get the awesome flying air fields, and the Americans and British have to put-put around in the Ocean. This will be forgiven, however, immediately upon the release of the Savannah class flying carrier.

The dreadnoughts look amazing and the scale is perfect for this game.

When is the release of the land boxes then?

May as far as I know, I haven't had a visit to the Spartan Forums in a while though.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Do they have any pictures with a proper measuring scale next to them like a ruler?

All well and good saying 'its this big compared to X', but at some point you'd need to know how big something was....

The big ships are bigger than they look. If you want actual foot-print size, I'd check out the Dystopian Wars trays at Battlefoam's website. Here's a basic picture, however. Hope it helps.

This game is looking really good, how are the mechanics? Is it fun?

It's really fun so far, but there are some balance issues with some of the models, and a general opinion that Sky>Sea>Land on a point per point basis. Spartan has a good track record of fixing stuff though, so I've good hopes that it'll get sorted out.

As always with Spartan the rules are a mess (rules all over the book, instead of where you would expect them) and they really need to get a proof-reader. Hopefully they will fix it with second edition of the book, but don't count on it.

Rules are interesting when you get what they wanted to say, but are often formulated with the intention of being idiot-proof and thus feel sometimes like a law-text.
You really need to be a fan of exploding sixes to enjoy this core mechanic, sadly I am not and I think ith creates more balance issues than it helps. Also, some optional rules really need some fixing. The dimensional portals really can change the game in favor of one side.

Also, it is only fun if people actually PLAY IT. In my area at least it is the number one game that is purchased and then never seen again. I see at least one starter a week walk out the door and have seen only two games played ever.

It's about like that in my area too, but the game is only just picking up, with an escalation campaign starting next week, but I think three times the people who have played it have purchased it.

I like the Brittainia dreadnought a lot, looks really majestic. Glad I chose them to start due to the ship designs (though I might start Prussia too sometime, as I like their airships and land vehicles).
