Complete agreement. Even if you don't plan on winning, Tournaments are 3-4 games for a small fee (Most are cheaper than a movie and popcorn and last significantly longer). You get to play and see new armies and people. Nothing wrong with that.

Not everyone who goes to tourneys is super serious.

No, the real solution is not to play in tournaments with THAT kind of player (who objects to you using models older than he probably is).

My whirlwind launchers are made from 40mm monster bases, plasticard and gubbins from the rhino sprues, for example. They look nothing like the current one, but serve the same purpose.

I am not sure I see the point in the blanket preemptive insults against anyone who doesn't see things your way... As may people have stated, it legitimately impacts gameplay...

And I am not sure what your custom-built counts-as Whirlwind launchers have to do with the discussion of drastically undersized gorkamorka trukks giving a huge in-game advantage to players? If someone feels your whirlwind launchers were modeling for advantage, the TO has every right to toss your models out too especially since they are scratch-build and there is no 'gaming rights' violation of the rulebook... Scratch builds are always opponents permission.

I honestly don't get the attitude of people who go to social events with explicit goal of picking a fight and saying everyone else but them has a problem. And I also don;t get why the first insult out of people's faces is that somehow young people are the only ones who can see issues with this. I own an armorcast gargant and loads of old-school ork models and have been playing since 2nd edition but even I see valid issues with the gorkamorka trukks and I choose not to use mine because I don't want to infringe upon other people's good time by forcing abusive models on them.

Just because you call people TFG doesn't make them TFG. Glass house and throwing stones...

Because it IS generally the younger clue-less folk that bring up the issues (around here).

Otherwise, how was my post a pre-emptive insult?

What's a pre-emptive insult anyway?

They were a scratchbuild from the WD that introduced its rules to 40k. It's also built onto an RT Rhino (I've never BOUGHT a GW "whirlwind" kit) which are 2/3 the size of the current one, so it IS the same kind of size issue you say people have with the trukks.

"Forcing abusive models" - I've yet to see a game played at gunpoint - but I don't live in the US of friggin' A so YMMV.

I think the solution to all of this is, "don't be a jerk". If you are playing with small models, recognize the fact that you could abuse them, and try not to. Just because the rules say you can do something doesn't mean it is right. One of my friends has lots of small rhino's and predators. We get along just fine because he isn't a jerk about it. On that same line, neither of us would ever try and use his old trucks as trucks, they almost fit under the current ones. Besides, trucks kinda suck anyway, just make em rokkit buggies and be happy.
