6 cc's of clear resin

first recast of my homemade storm shields: 1 drop red, 1 drop blue
second, 2 drops red, one drop blue (the red is already pretty purplish, imo)
third, 2 drops red 2 drops blue

the block is a bunch of crystals I molded, when I had dreams of casting multicolored necron crystals. They're in recipe 3 (grape).

That link Bioterror posted in the other thread looks most promising, as well.

Way too thick, unfortunately.

And something on topic 3/32" copper tubing seems reasonably price for what we're using it for.

Tamiya also makes some awesome clear colors but they can be hard to get a hold of.

Ooh, interesting idea. I'll have to try that out.

Update: Purple Ink + Floor Acrylic Finish did not work at all. Didn't tint it even a little. I suspect the extruded acrylic isn't porous enough. Though it may've been not enough ink in the mix, but I highly doubt it.

Next I'm doing to try a purple Sharpie.

you know, 3/32 copper tubing would make a really unique look for necrons.

Well, 3/32" turns up alot of sutff on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/10-CARDBOARD-PAPER-TUBES-1-x-6-x-3-32-/380201929048...
Barber Shop Necrons seem to remain my favorite however.

By the way, wanted to say thanks to everyone helping out with this. It's cool to see "We want other color Necron power chambers!" has become sort of a community project.

Managed to find some 3/32" in Blue - I'll try a red ink dip and post some pics if it comes out any good.

The purple ink dip on clear came out okay, but just didn't last. I wonder if Purity Seal kind of stuff would help make it so casual contact with a fingernail doesn't scrape off the paint.

Bloodquest, I don't suppose you have any scrap acrylic lying around you can send me to experiment with next time I order some stuff from you?

I'm sure I'll find some, and I'll send you some of the blue as well.

My old red ink on yellow acrylic seem pretty scratchproof, and I don't recall treating them in any way.

I will have to experiment some more.

Simple solution: Find out who does the colored acrylic rods, and follow up with the company/manufacturer if they do any other colors. I'm tempted to do this to differentiate my squads.

I've tried this, though don't know who does the official ones.

Most places don't make them that thin, or only will if you want to do a print run of tens of thousands of feet.

Did some hunting for ya;
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/52319.page

what about getting a clear rod and applying a wash/ink of your prefered color and then gloss-coat?

I'm going to have to get some gloss next time I'm out and see how that goes.

Purple permanent marker on a clear rod seems to work surprisingly well. Even comes out looking a bit swirly, like it's a fluorescing gas in the gun chamber.

Waiting to see the results on some of the other methods before declaring it the winner, though.

Contacted the company, though, and those (plus clear) are the only colors they do.

(thanks, poda_t for the link to that other thread)

Ouze, how did that casting turn out? If they're done, of course.

I checked them before I left the house for work. Almost ready, still a tiny bit sticky. I'd describe them as being similar in coloring to a grape jolly rancher.

Will take pics when I get home.

Contacted a company that does rods in transparent purple (among others) (will add a link when I get home), asking them for a sample to see if the slight size difference is workable and whether the color is right.
Sadly, they want an administrative fee of 5 pounds (what's the ASCII alt-code for that monetary symbol, anyway? is it on British keyboards?), so I'm going to have to wait to order a sample.

GW seems to have discontinued Leviathan Purple.

I need that.

Well, check online stores and such now, as they won't be able to restock.

I have half a dropper left of Leviathan Purple, I better hang onto it in case I ever finish my space hulk genestealers... surprised they would discontinue it.

Here are the colors of the cast in purple. The first recipe is one drop blue, one drop red. The second is 2 drops red, 1 drop blue, and the third is 2 drops blue, 2 drops red. All were 3cc's of clear resin.

The discoloration on the first one is from a little bit of dye that was on the bottle i wrapped it on to curve it, so ignore that. The bits on the bottom are from my crystal mold block, and are from recipe 3: grape jolly rancher.

As soon as my plastic mold stuff comes from the CMON store, I'll cast some rods. Keep in mind they will not, at all, have that fluorescent quality the other ones do.

Hmm.

Yeah, not quite what I was looking for, but good to know how it comes out.

http://www.theplasticshop.co.uk/coloured-acrylic-rod-all-diameters-3220-0.html Was the place I was looking at. But, after some metric-english conversion, the size I need is .09375", while their smallest diameter is .12598". Not a gigantic difference, but I'm definitely starting to suspect that the magic marker on the clear rods is the best bet.

Soon. My camera blows, and the piece is only like half an inch long, so I need to figure out a way to get a good, accurately representative picture of it.

A little off topic, but where did you learn that Leviathan Purple is discontinued? It's still on sale at the gw site.

Local game store said so.
Could be that GW just has more in stock to sell through.
Could be that the store was wrong.

Continuing off topic but relevant to paints, etc.

GW will continue selling stock after its discontinued, but only through its own stores, Grey knight terminators for example, were still on a week ago, but no other retailer carries any unless someone hasn't bought them in for the past month or two. I didn't check today, not sure if they were pulled.

Which also explains some of the apocalpyse kits; they weren't generous offers, they were house-clearing mechanism. (10 leman russ battletanks? YAYUH! till you realise theyre all the old ratty ones and then they stock the shelves with nice new shiny ones. Youuuu allllll know what imm talking abouuuuuuut!)

Leviathan purple was ink or paint? or was it the wash??

Leviathan purple is the wash, which is why I was kind of surprised--the washes are pretty new!

colored purple rods here, but i don't think the size you want is here:
http://www.plasticareinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=P&Category_Code=Acry_Rods_Colored

this one has 1/8" up to 1-1/2", but not in purple:
http://www.delviesplastics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=DPI&Category_Code=Extruded_rod

this ones kinda iffy in my opinion, but for those who are adventurous, colored rods and fancy rods with colored spirals in them.
does have purple rods, size and length of rod is unknown BUT please be aware that this is a BULK ORDER site with most minimum orders at 500 rods:
http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/colored-plexiglass-rod.html

another one that is overseas, but does have purple rods, and quite possibly the right size as well, since they have a large list of sizes but it's all in millimeters, so i'm not for sure on this:
http://haoyeacrylicrod.en.ec21.com/Colored_Acrylic_Rod_Plexiglas_Rod--4127173_4138090.html

if these don't help you then your probably stuck and should start trying to cast your rods from clear dyed resin, since googling anything past the first page is ussually useless. i have these pages saved since i'm looking at making new flying stands that are thicker and sturdier than GW's for my Eldar tanks.

Edited for typos

Thanks on the searching! They're all too thick, but at least I know it's not just that I'm not finding them, and that they are indeed difficult to find (apparently).

Scroll up. Click the link in BloodQuest's sig. Ordered some stuff from him recently, works nicely.
