Maybe they seem so terrible because you field them so much more than everything else. The more often you use a unit, the more horror stories that arise.

And to be fair, those last three examples are pretty standard; halberdiers aren't good match-ups for guys with lots of attacks, or against giant things. But I did watch them hold up a Bloodthirster for a few turns more than once. And the, with the fighting done, the greater daemon promptly ate a cannon ball.

Worst Choice overall: Demon prince. I've seen a lot of people take horrible units in games, but even the new players know this guy is terrible

Well, perhaps the picture is skewed but from the internet I get the impression that Halberdiers are THE answer to everything. Over on Warhammer Empire, people are incredulous how my Halberdiers can lose a fight. They're usually advertised as not only the backbone but the anvil and fist of Sigmar that will obliterate CW deathstars, and that advice is not coming from some muppets. Ah well, never mind. Your meta, my meta, YMMV and such.

Best/Worst

Skaven - Abomination/Poisoned Wind Globes. (NEVER get their points back in kills.)

Dark Elves - War Hydra / Executioners

Warriors - Horde Khorne Warriors w/ Shields & Halberds (OMFG...) / Spawn

Vampires - Grave Guard / Bat Swarms (zombies? srsly? ever fought against a Horde 50 man zombie unit? most frustrating unit EVAR!)

Dark Elves:
Favorite - Manticore, Witches
Least Favorite - Harpies (due to models; hideous)

Best - Hydra (notice a trend? This thing is awesome, the whole game knows it)
Worst - RBT

Would love if they could bring their own ASF - Executioners

Tactically

Best: Repeater Crossbows with Shields.
Worst: Repeater Bolt Throwers

Aesthetically

Best: Black Guard
Worst: I'm tempted to go with the flow and say the 'squatting spearelves/rxbowmen)' but I honestly hate what they've done to the Corsairs with their new 'spiky pirate' look.

Fluffwise

Best: Tie between Dreadlords and Cold One Knights.

Worst: Ummm, the fluff is why I love the Dark Elves, but I'd probably go for ... harpies? I suppose?

I aslo mainly play DE, and here's my version:

Tactically

Best: Repeater crossbowmen with Shields
Worst:Executioners

Aesthetically

Best:Executioners probably or Cold one kinghts.
Worst: Hydra- I don't know why,its just uhhhhh.....

Fluff-wise

Best:Ummmm..... Most of the codex.
Worst: None really.
