Is that where that comes from? Interesting.

So Aussies pay more because overheads are higher?

Why is it malarkey?

Not trying to start an argument or anything. Just saying that comparitively it's probably no more expensive then what we'd pay over here in the states. Whether that's still too expensive is personal.

Possibly that and shipping costs.

Nope. Not doing this. It will end in nothing but a locked thread.

Only if we can't stay civil about it. I see no reason why we can't.

Or has this topic been done to death somewhere else? Hook a brother up with a link!

On numerous occasions, and is not the topic of this thread.

Well, I'm excited to go. I may not be when I walk out, but I'm looking forward to having a good time! And doing stuff I otherwise wouldn't get to do. Even if I have to start outside early to get to see forgeworld stuff in the flesh. And play some fun games too!

Though you know what, I'm most likely going to be suckered in to buying forgeworld for everyone else. Sadface.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

HBMC, I seriously don't understand how you can spew so much vitriol and yet continue to bother having any interest in the event whatsoever. GD miniatures have always been a single limited release miniature. Australians have always paid more for everything - if you pay taxes alone you'd know that.

Some Black Library authors will be present, which I'm quite happy about. I'm hoping Aaron D-B will be there - I know that another author will be there for certain and ought to make a lot of BL fans very happy!

I guess with games day you are paying to be in a big room with hundreds (thousands in the UK) of other "GW hobbyists" all breathing and sweating together, with some fat moron shouting "WAAAAAAAAAARGH!!" over the tannoy every few minutes.

Sure, everything you do there can be done elsewhere, probably cheaper. But, when has that ever turned nerds off? Nerds of a feather like to flock together. Somehow, for many, Big = AWESOME.

Whether sharing a convention centre with hordes of spotty, sweaty fourteen-year-old boys and their toys is worth the money of course, only you can answer.

I think you can tell from the tone of my post which side of the fence I sit.

But why wouldn't you be able to get the mini, when it comes with the ticket?

In the past, with the shirts I was able to buy a ticket and shirt in store and walk away with them without having to appear at GD (which I never have). The mini is now part of the ticket price and it seems you can only get it as you walk in the door at GD, which I won't be doing.

I'd like to go, but logistically it's too much for so little.

Oh, which black library guys will be there? I want to know so I can get my books signed. I know, I'm a GW apologist and a Black Library fanboy, as HBMC keeps on telling me, but I like the product.

$75.00.

Considering how much the 'wise' save with online purchases, I would consider the cost as a minor overhead for my Hobby.

Hmm... would be a shame to miss out on this chance to see my first Games Day, but Im not sure if I wanna hit up the $75. Not to mention the transportation to get my ass over to Sydney (all fine and well if you're already a Sydney-sider), accommodation (never fun to consider) and food (of which I eat alot of).

Still tempting though, if only to say I've been to a Games Day.

Can't help with the food, but for the other two: for the previous incarnation of Games Day, the GW stores used to organise a bus from each capital city. It was never well advertised (you pretty much had to just ask about it in-store), but I spoke to a few people over the years who tried it... Basically would go down the night before, de-bus at the front door of the venue, and then pick everyone up immediately afterwards and head home.

No idea if they're doing something similar this time around, or how much it would cost.

As of Friday just gone, Forgeworld will be at GD Aus. They still haven't quite worked out exactly who and exactly what they can show/bring -- although there will be FW stuff on sale ( again as of Friday just gone).

Well if a friend of mine is going and they are taking orders, I might pick up that Arvus Lighter. I wonder if they'll bring those 'show only' models they talked about.

[EDIT]: And yes, I know I said I was done with this thread, but reds8n's posts are good news, and I can comment on that.

Well, forgeworld does charge 15% on shipping - I'll only charge 7.5% as you're an old friend

Though to be honest, if Forgeworld is anything like it was in America, it works on a 'scrum' or 'first come, knocked down by others in a rush to get the 3 of whatever people want' system. Which means I could come away with only a concussion and a DKOK character for all I know.

Do we have any ideas on when Forgeworld is going to announce they are coming/the system for the day? For instance, I'm looking to pick up 3-6 IA books, will they be available to buy on the day?

Well they have their Open Day, AdeptiCon, Salute, GD France, Chicago and Germany as well as UK to get through first so it wll probably be towards Julyish
