I have actually proffered this in the past. Give the area around brownsville. Its hot with beachfront property. I mean come on, the entire TransJordan region is smaller than the King ranch.

That's not what he said though, is it? Where I'm looking from he seems to be suggesting a one-state solution where everyone has equal rights, which will never happen as some, Israelis and Palestinians alike, refuse to treat eachother as equals. Oh, and Israel would de facto cease to exist if the area became a true democracy.

That's been going on for, what, three weeks now? And outside Libya it hasn't be really all that significant.

Prior to that when was the last major event of organized violence in the Middle East that didn't relate to either Israel, or a Western military? The late 80's? Maybe the '09 protests in Iran, depending on how you interpret them? So slightly more than 20 years without a significant conflict amongst Muslim nations, which isn't especially different from any region in the world that isn't North America or Western Europe.

Before Israel oppressed them, the Palestinians were oppressed by the Arab countries. Meh.

Erm... I didn't say anything about pulling any Jews out of the area. My point is that creating a state for incoming jewish migrants based upon supposed divine right of ownership, and the concurrent religious/ethnic apartheid it entails, in a predominantly Arabic region, is asking for trouble - in an area that already spreads trouble on its toast every morning.

I think you mean the British, and before them the Ottoman Turks; neither of which were particularly oppressive. Its been a really long time since Palestine was ruled by Arabs.

Yeah, and it was gak when other Arab nations did it to them.

None of which changes the simple fact that right now Palestinians are not given the chance to build decent lives for themselves, and the primary cause of this is their treatment at the hands of Israel.

Sooner or later it twigs, for even the hardest headed people. Read enough stories about the treatment of Palestinians, and sooner or later they will think that Israel did something over the top. Then it's likely they'll start to see a pattern.

People can be hardheaded, but the reality of the situation is inescapable. Popular opinion has shifted dramatically in the last couple of decades, and will continue to shift as people, slowly but surely, begin to realise what the situation actually is.

Afterall, there were all sorts of folk whose minds were completely made up on gay rights. But look how far we've come in just a few decades.
