It would definably be better to have one guardsmen in pieces on the base. But, I don't think you can combine a melted lasgun ammo clip, while the victim is blasted to bits by artillery. An artillery blast would disintegrate the lasgun, I think.

Maybe add a discarded helmet or other equipment, and some footprints behind them if the ground will be soft.
If you do the footprints, the casualty's should be stretched, like he's dragging one foot.

at bloodquest:
the streched footprints sound like a cool idea... have to look into the base if i can do that...
the helmet and other euquip i will look into the bitzbox for that...
at scazza:
i thought my comment was a bit overexagerated... notkilled by artillery... he died just of the explosion...so not in pieces but definatly in peace^^
at PraetorDave:
the GS bit on the wounded one in the middle is his hair...you have to see it in perspective to understand it i guess...the head is from militia from fantsay line and i cut away the hat and so i had to replace quite a bit with GS and tried to do hair... i like it quite much as it is...
at shrike:
if i had a zomby head this would even be better...the wounded aspect of the head would take the mini quite far then...

OOOh I love diorama's like this I thought about doing one but I didn't have the time, so it is great to see someone building the scene (especially a talented someone ) As for the exploded lasgun you good have it half buried in the mud with part of an arm buried in the ground near it. Kind of like WW1 where bodies of previous inhabitants of the trench would be swallowed up by the mud so if the trench was dug at or hit by an explosion parts of the bodies would start to show.
Also good greenstuff hair it looks really good, also like a previous poster said it is funny that one of the Guardsmen is having a good feel of his wounded friend ^^
Edit: It was ma55ter fett that posted the coment about the Guardsman feeling the wounded.

I remember reading a quote from a WWI veteran, who said that he stumbled and put his hand on the wall. His hand fell through the mud and landed in some french guy's stomach. Apparently, it felt like soft cheese. Lovely.

I hate to say it but the soft cheese bit made me laugh. However I cannot even imagine the living hell those troops went through almost everyday. (taking into account breaks from the line every week or so) Although all wars are horrible WW1 was one of the grisliest, bloodiest and down right dirty wars ever to happen in modern history.

EDIT- I admit I laughed when I heard about the arch duke's death. They failed (twice), so the guy went to get a sandwhich, then the archduke took a wrong turn near the sandwich shop and the guy shot him. How british- "I've failed in my assassination which would kill millions. I need a sandwich."

thanks santa^^ , should sig that compliment of yours but me being the modest one...^^
i am currently working on the dead huy lying on the ground... this inst easy... as the IGs nearly hve no real options to have a lying man to be done out of the normal troopers... so i cut a kneeling legs bit to size to get a better dynamicaly position...hope that will work...for this i decided to have the guradsman lying collapsed on a sandbag...lasgun still in hand an the other arm lying flat around the sandbag...maybe i will use pva glue to make some wounds... this might create some nice bubbles and stuff so thta it might actually look the part...
i destroyed a helmet to make it look hit...and for the lasgun explosion part i am still a bit unsure...
i think WWII is way more brutal...concerning deathtoll all in all and also the shown brutality here on all sides is much more fierce...stories of my granddad and other history reports...makes one shudder...
what makes WI so gruesome i think is the long trenchwar... i think fighting in a unit you came very close to each other fellow soldiers and thus their death witnessed makes more painful inprints in memory...

I love the diorama, however... I dislike the mixing of the lasgun types (one guy has a catachan las carbine). It just looks out of place to me - but, hey, it's your model.

Maybe Vik could paint the two in different regiment colors, that would justify the difference in weapon type. It would also add a fel like 'brohers in arms' .
Otherwise, you could just reason it's a war trophy.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. Another similar idea could be to make the one with the carbine look like more of an assault trooper - maybe an advanced helmet on his back or something...

you cosmic pixie sir have a very sharp eye...indeed it is a catachan waepon with hand...hmmm to change the weapon... this i dont want really as i want to keep the minis in that shape... pose was really my foremost thought here... but to kit him out a bit is a good thoughttho i fear i cut up my last spare helmet just today... darn...well maybe i have to carve out a face of a complete hlemeted head for this...god this will be teidious...
a different paintscheme only in the way that they all would fit the overall scheme of the vicorian army...

Well, as my first real army was catachan, this stuff jumps out. However, I really like the pose - it's very natural. You could make the guy look more assaulty very easily with green stuff kneepads or a slightly different head - you could look at the heavy weapons ones or the valkyrie pack if you have any lying around.
The paint scheme idea could be as simple as a different coloured shoulder pad or helmet. I would try yellow and black hazard stripes on one shoulder if it looked good with your army's colours.

the kneepads sound very convincing.... and i think i have some other heavy heads too...shoulderpads could be done according to your tip but just not in blue as blue is acording to fluff banned from use...by royal decree...but red and white or black and red stripes would work any day...
