WYSIWYG should be used in tandem with a list so you can then say to an opponent "I am using this piece of wargear, which is represented by this piece on the model"
Yeah 100% "so long as you explain exactly who has what at the start of the game." Pg 47
Phayse wrote:
WYSIWYG is there to stop people from saying "I am using this blade of doom, even though my model is blatantly armed with a squeaky hammer"
This is horribly inaccurate.
"The rule is that such equipment must be visually represented on the model so your opponents can clearly see what they are facing."
"a player might decide that for his next game a model’s power sword will simply count as a close combat weapon, but he will also equip the model with melta bombs." Pg 47
So, differently coloured pieces of blu-tak and an index is more than sufficient. So is deeming a 'squeaky hammer' a 'blade of doom', hell a PS can pretend to be a melta-bomb
Hmm. Consider the second comment subject to tourny, if not irrelevant.

That's fine you don't have to play someone if you don't want to.

I would agree if it were a tourney but in a friendly game I prefer not to know the minutiae of the enemy army. I'll not be impressed if his guys are pulling concealed lascannons from their robes, but I consider it perfectly fair that the driver of a rhino doesn't know whether the assault squad nearby have melta bombs. It's certainly more sporting to let the opponent know exactly what he can expect (and I certainly wouldn't refuse disclosure) but the mind games are all part of the fun to me. YMMV.

To avoid issues, maybe go through each others units before the game starts so there are no surprises. You do write army lists right?

He answered earlier that:
1) No, they don't have written army lists (or, at least the DE player doesn't)
2) He's too excited to start playing to bother going through wargear options.
Until his playgroup fixes those two issues, I doubt they'll be able to resolve unviewable WYSIWYG.

Did your Flicker Field come on a sprue? no?
I play with the rule that if GW doesn't supply me the model bit, I won't model "just to have it for my opponent". I may model a flicker field generator for myself, but never to please anyone else.

I think I have confused you a little as I was quoting a different message. "In the 40k rulebook it states that you must explain exactly who has what at the start of the game" and "I just want to get on with the killing and don't ask" were meant to be in different pargraphs. I'm saying that he needs to say what his dudes have and that I forget to ask because I just want to get on with the game. guyperson5 wrote:We don't go through army lists before each battle because it's pretty obvious what my guys have due to WYSIWYG and he hasn't made one (an army list )
If he hasn't made an army list, how do either of you know for sure what his point total is? He could be off by a hundred points and neither of you would know. Because he knows the amount of points and tallies them up in his head

Borrow his book for a while and jot up what he had in his force last battle.
Betcha it doesn't match the points you agreed on.
Making written army lists is common courtesy. Bringing an army where the only record of it's equipment is in the owners head is a recipe for cheating like hell, with dip and salad.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts
