I'd highly recommend the Eisenhorn omnibus or Nemesis from the Horus Heresy series. What I really enjoyed about both of these books was the inside look into Imperial society they give as opposed to some of the other books that focus more on the military. Beyond some small bits of fluff written elsewhere, these novels really helped expand my understanding of what it might be like to live in the Imperium of Man. Mechanicum was also pretty cool for the insight into life on Mars or other Forge Worlds.
