It's possible for your chapter.

In the book "Brothers of the Snake" it is mentioned. I don't have the book in front of me as I'm not at home, but they say brother so and so drove the rhino but he was stripped to the waste of his armour so that he could fit into the drivers compartment. When they got to the town they were driving to they just got out and re-armoured him.

When I get home I will look up the exact reference and post the actual quote.

Ah don't worry about page references mate

I think I remember the passage you are talking about now actually.

We are of course all forgetting one of the oldest bits of fluff surrounding 'useless' marines; honorable euthanasia. I believe this happens to marines which have been lobotomised in some way (reduced to vegetables), or perhaps also damaged beyond repair (perhaps paralysed from the waist down for instance). The distinction between this and the 'Emperor's mercy' is that AFAIK the latter is the name given to putting a marine out of his misery on the battlefield, at the hands of an apothecary.

Crippled Marines not worthy of a Dreadnought are given the Emperor's Mercy so that they can use the gene-seed to make more.
