If you're not ranking up behind the furnace, then you are pushing it with very few models or are running a very wide formation. Even just 32 plague monks creates an 11-wide front. I like to run at least 40 myself.

But fair point on it not coming out of the magic item allocation.

Meh, I guess I'll stop being a negative Nancy and just try it. I only use it in fun games anyway, and he already has a plague-censor that I've been counting as a fancy flail, so why not.

I like 5 on either side (which makes you effectively 13 wide). 3 ranks is 30 monks, and only 6 tests.
30 monks has been enough for me; just small enough where you can squeeze in a 2nd furnace, and/or bell. Nobody expects to face 3 unbreakable skaven units.

Our games tend to be larger, so only 30 models with no armor will go poof very fast. Given the number of units on tne table and with the amount of terrain we use, a 13-wide front would be a disaster.

Well, it sounds like it's time to use the Reform manuever. 13 wide isn't so hard to manage if you're careful, especially in big games.

Minimizing the number of your guys in B2B is a good point, Matt. Offing a unit champ is nice, but fighting a single-model (chariot or monster) is not. Challenges are lack-luster on both accounts, so that's probably a wash.

So, I'll change my statement: Plague Censors are worth it when you're running Horde formation.
