Well, everyone has really shared some hilarious and sadly ironic stories, and I
hope everyone has so far learned and gotten a laugh out of them.

As a aside, our tournament ran again this month, and while I didn't manage to
get a match against our Chaos Daemons player this time (he was eliminated
Round 1 by Chaos Marines oddly enough... his Soulgrinders fell to Lasgun Razorbacks).
I did go against the Chaos Marines player, and managed to kill 2 Razorbacks and a Defiler
one after another with a Regening Trygon. Even when it had 4 wounds on it, he couldn't
finish it off fast enough, and it would Regen 1-2 wounds a round. Needless to say, I felt
alot better about my performance against vehicles, and managed to win the tourney.

Lost a game in 2009 40K Skull of Thrones against my opponent who didn't turn up.

Nobody told me that my game return should have been against him as opposed to the replacement opponent.

Could mean lascannon predators...

As for me, only tournament I have ever played in, took a unit of stormboyz + zagstruk. Didn't thoroughly read the rules and so was oblivious to the rokkit packs rule (you know, roll d6, add this to your movement in movement phase) so spent the entire tournament doing zaggy's deepstrike carnage, then spending the rest of the game moving 12, running, getting shot to bits, next turn trying to assault with a unit down to 4ish boyz and zaggy.

Next time, I will study my codex in great detail before a tournament!

At the Big Waaagh two years ago, one opponent handed me his list. In addition to his land raiders, terminators, vindicator etc there was a lone landspeeder in the list. It had a heavybolter instead of a multimelta (as recommended by the internet) and I commented on it. He started laughing. He had forgotten to use it in his first two games that day.

At the last tournament I went to I thought the game ended at 1250. It turned out it ended at 110 and thus, lost the game due to time confusion. That last turn might have let me win the tournament as I went on to win the next 2 games. My opponent shook my hand: The handshake indicates game over.

Rule #1 ALWAYS KNOW WHEN TIME IS UP AND DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE TO BEFORE CALLING GAME. D'oh!

RTT several years back, just finished the second round. My Land Raider lost a lascannon sponson so I crazy glued it back on right there on the playing table, and apparently got the cuff of my sleeve glued to it without noticing.

I went to walk away and let it dry... It came with me. Along the way it scooped up a piece of terrain, half an infantry squad of some sort of well painted and delicate Eldar, and his single large model painting entry (a walker.) All the models in question then hit the floor and shattered.

Game 5 at the Indy GT, I'm playing against drop pod Marines. I form up a nice castle in a corner, scout the Vendettas out...

And realise there's a hole right in the middle of my army which a pair of Ironclads immediately drop into. Bugger.

not me, my FLGS manger against me.

He had most of his 1750 Grey knight army(including 3 psyrifle dreadnoughts)ready to shoot 5 immortals and a lord. 5 purifiers with halberds and 1 hammer ready to assault my destroyer necron lord. Now, the lord was barely behind a building and was not difficult terrain EASILY. I said it was. he then MEASURED from his purifiers to my D lord to assault, forgetting to shoot his entire army at my immortals. My lord then proceeded to slaughter the purifiers and win me the game. (it was kill ponts)

I played against a space marine player who hid loads of devs in the back field, so I deepstriked some chaos termis /w power fists (I was still fairly new) to kill them, he turned his assault squad around, with a power weapon and melta, and wiped out the entire unit of chaos termis in one assult. Considering is was only a 1000p game, and I spent about 250-300 on the termis, I lost lol

The Objective: Hold as many of the five objectives as possible.
* Only Troops can hold or contest objectives (I find this rule at the local store stupid, any unit should be able to contest).

For this night, I changed my usual Sicarius, 3 Tacticals in Drop Pods with a Supporting Unit of scouts (1000pt list) for a Librarian, 2 Tactical Squads & 3 Dreadnoughts (Everything Drop Pods). My enemy in the final round is a Dark Eldar with 4 of those skimmers with 10 wyches in each.....

Turn 1, I drop down and he avoids not 1, not 2, but 3 vehicle destroyed results due to his 4+ invulnerable.

I will note, I got to place 3 of the objectives and I set them all up in a series of ruins, while the other 2 were far-flung.

By turn 2, my 3 Dreadnoughts managed to pop 1 skimmer and then sniper another turn 3 before 1 died to haywire grenades?????? GD

My 1 Tactical is holding the triple objective with the Librarian, 2 units of Wyches rush in... Close combat happens... at the end of it all, there is 2 wyches from 1 squad, 3 wyches from another.

Bottom of Turn 4 comes up, I get my last drop pod of Tactical in. roll a HIT dice allowing my squad to break into combat squads and in theory, mow down both Dark Eldar Squads (2 in 1, 3 in another), I deploy them. Prepare to roll the dice....

TIME IS CALLED.

This was my first night returning to WH40k for 5th Edition. I was a handful of dice from winning the game, never got to finish my turn, opponent was one turn ahead of me...

Moral of the Story: I should have looked at the clock myself, the guy calling TIME was using a watch that was 10 minutes fast.... (For whatever reason, everyone was using the store clock when the round started, but Mr. Time.. well, he would look at his own watch later)

I was playing in the second 'ardboyz prelims, and it was my IG vs a 1k-sons list full of dreads and defilers, with 2 daemon princes as HQs. The mission is modified kps, with troops and dedicated transports as 1 kp, hqs as 5 kp, and everything else as 2 kp. The second turn of the game has both the dp dead, and me sitting pretty. I spend the rest of my time pouring fire into troops as I FORGOT THE MISSION. Some outflanking chosen get into my line, and proceed to wipe me. It was embarrassing and dumb.

this isnt tournament mistake but just a normal game derp. I was playing orks (with marines) and my tactical squad was locked in with a dreadnought. He was slowly wittleing me down but I had managed to imobalize him. At turn 5 I realized that I could have used combat tactics, pulled out and shot his rear armor with missile. Thats been my biggest goof so far

AARRRRGGGHHH! I've been slapped down by sentinels doing that to my marines so many times I've been making melta bombs or power fists mandatory in all my tac squads! I can't believe I didn't think of that!

not too big of a flub but it cost me my 3rd win out of 3 games at a monthly tourney, played the mission with 2 objectives, except our TO makes it so first dead hq is another objective...

played against tau and i wass using IG, i was castled with 2 ten man squads behind a wall, i surrounded my objective so he couldnt contest with his last pirhana(out of 3) that was sitting outside the wall, firstly i failed to kill/maim said pirhana with 1 missile, 1 battlecannon/lascannon, full 5 shot executioner blasts/lascannon......well thinking that i only needed to prevent a pirhana(decent size model) from getting within 3 " of the marker, i left a 3" gap between my two squads on either side, so he proceeds to fly 12 over the whole wall/squads and disembark his drones, who mamba line between the squads and game ends -_-

First time playing with non Xenos/chaos I had accidentally putting autocannon turrets on razor backs instead of assault cannons. I had missread the entry in the codex . when you are planning on 48 inch range vs 24 its a big oops in terms of strategy. Luckly my TO caught it before I had started playing. Was able to borrow some turrets.
