Didn't know the II's where recon makes em good then as light tanks can get back to harras enemy artty early in the game. And yup Frankvas I have used AAA, other than 88's of course, against infantry more than aircraft.

If you can get them drop the Panzer IV's and go with the Panzer III "L" model's; they might be lighter on the gun but rate of fire 3 and the same armor stats...also this would free up some points. I like to use air...it comes in handy and yes I know it can be spotty but so can everything else. Also I love Heavy Mortars....they are a little light on firepower but the vet (3) / Firepower (3) makes them a cinch to knock out light vehicles, guns and infantry...

Overall how effective are the Panzer III L against Shermans? My main opponent will have quite a few of them in the list
|
Just my 2 cents

I'd keep your Panzer IV Gs, AT 11 is great versus Sherman, the extra range is great too if you are playing on open desert boards.
Ls are okay, experience shows that you wont get to use RoF 3 as often as you like, especially since Shermans out range you. When I run Panzer IIIs I prefer Ns for being slightly cheaper and better FP.
BTW, on the list you can drop a Panzer II and get the bigger Panzerpionier platoon, or drop the infantry all together and get more tanks. Small infantry platoons arent very effective.

Sherman tanks are also going to be CON/TRND, which does a lot to help your survivability. I have used them to great success. I also did not use them alone. I saved the points and spent them on PAK 40 guns, or 88's which really helped to keep the Mid war armor at distance. I agree with the panzer II's being a waste of money. But also look at regular 10.5 cm arty and some Air. There is a reason for combined arms working your enemy can't counter everything, all the time.

Recon is never a waste of points for any armor lists.
AT guns arent that great in an armor list, you need to be mobile since you are attacking most of the time.
Nebs outperforms 10.5cms most of the time.

ITS your world...AT guns ,can be used to deny a flank while your tanks maneuver into position. They have good rate of fire and ca be dug in. Arty that can give you smoke as well as fill the role of direct fire and bombardment. Recon is great I never said there not....but 8-Rad armor cars , cheaper and Have recon move and rules...in my Lehr Co. I use Puma's to great effect.

Well they can't move and fire their main gun. They can move and fire with machine guns, though. You just have to be ready to deal with it. The french tanks have some really solid armor and are going to do well in most situations. If they are hunting tanks you have two options though: 1) Hide and wait for the enemy to come to you and then shoot them after they have shot at you first, or 2) Really go hunting and move towards the enemy, soak up their fire and then take them out on the next turn. All of the french tanks have enough armor to soak some hits before getting to fire back. The key is to minimise their exposure to enemy AT guns, especially AT guns with gun shields unless you attack them from their side arc.
Of our main players in our current EW escalation league we have a pretty decent balance: 3 German players, 2 british players, 2 french players, 2 polish players and 1 italian player (using an EW experimental pdf that should eventually be seen in the EW Africa book). No 1 force has proven itself unstoppable and the current top 5 order are: 1) Poles 2) British 3) Poles 4) French 5) German. So even with their One Man Turret rule the french are still definitely competitive on the table top.
