Nice concept.

I very dislike the smaller base though. No way that thing is a good stand in for a dreadnought. Just put it on its real base.
Guns look silly huge though.

Yeah the sentinel cockpit has more of a Star Wars feel, which is more futuristic and far less industrial looking. You probably could build a Dread Knight for less than $20 if you jumbled all the parts together off bits sites and ebay. It would end up looking pretty jumbled together if you had that tight a budget though, and the unique futuristic style of the Dread Knight is what drew me to it. There aren't any models in GW range that look anything like it and certainly nothing comes close in the Marine or IG ranges.

Heres what I came up with on ebay...dreadknight kit, sentinel cockpit & armored upgrade, $58.40 shipped. Thats pretty much equal to the dreadknight kit at full retail + shipping or sales tax.

So all I need is a spare $60 and Ill be building one.

Not sure why it wouldn't be a good Dreadnought. I see people with converted dreadnoughts that big all the time. I see them at GT's and 'Ard Boyz constantly, not to mention local tournies in several different gaming shops.

As for the long guns, I kind of hate GW's stunty gun design on marine vehicles. A perfect example of how this goes against modern weapon design would be something like the M1A1 tank. It has a long thin barrel that is almost the same length as its turret.

I was also going for the look of something like the mechs in Gasaraki. That video series does a great job of trying to be realistic about mechs being used militarily. I find these designs to be much more aesthetically interesting than GW's stunty, cartoonish design style.

I love the conversion. The cleaner lines make it look ten times better.

It is a touch huge to be run as a Dreadnought, though...

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage

The thing about swapping parts throughout the races of 40k, is that unless it's done right everyone that has any knowledge about the game can immediately spot it. Yes, the Eldar chest makes it look Eldar-y, the guns are funny huge and the small base and peeing stance make it look awkward to me. Just my honest two cents.

Another bit that looks a bit funny is the ammo feed into the gun on the Left arm. It looks like some kind of macro-bore cannon, and yet is fed from a tiny little ammo feed (or am I mis-understanding the weapon?).

I basically extended the barrel with a few bits that are about the same diameter as the entire gun was. I could increase the size of the ammo feed if it really looks that silly.

As for intake vents, I've seen lots of powered armor have intake vent looking things on the chest including Starcraft Terran marines and Robotech veritechs (though I guess they have a good excuse since they transform into jet planes). I'm glad that they're at least an improvement over the baby carrier though. Maybe on the next two I won't put the intake grills in, but fill the holes with something else.

Ah-ha... I thought you had kit bashed the predator sponson ammo feed onto it for some reason. If its the original then its fine Terran marines have some kind of armoured power core, rather than vents though. The vents go on the backout of the way. As I indicated though, I thikn its a much better look than the standard kit, just some musings for next time round

While still not what I see for a baby titan, it is most definitely better than what GW sent out. I guess they're only remembering the worst stuff from Rogue Trader days, if the Blood Angels codex, Stormraven model, and Dreadknight model are any indication.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

I know this is gonna sound whiney and what not but the dreadknight is an exoskeleton meaning the pilot controles it with their own body movements imagine it's like a reverse puppet the the toy on the end of the strings controling the big guy, by removing the termy from the front and encapsulating him in the confines of a cockpit you have stopped him moving and stopped him piloting the machine ((NerdRage)) If you don't like the baby carrier look (neither do I) your going to have to construct a different means of holding a pilot suspended with room to move preferably within the machine which would mean adding considerable volume to the core chest region.

But then again power armour is supposed to be plugged directly into Marines' spines. I'm sure they could get around the whole thing of actually needing to move to pilot the thing

@Kasrkin - The rifle is an extremely neat idea, but its a bit wibbly. Is there any way that you can straighten the barrels out a bit more?

indeed the simplest way I can think of is have the GK stripped of his power armour with neural plugs in the sockets usualy used to plug him into the armour but from my understanding these plugs only replicate the signals sent to the muscle groups hence the need for muscle movement because if he was restrained he could injure himslef the only alternative is to have a nural link similar to the pricepts of a titan instead which plugs directly into the brain stem diverting the synapse messages usualy sent to the muscles... Personaly i think a space marine in his black bodyglove with wires and cables plugged in is a nice solution but that requires an armoured cockpit (I know I'm spelling that wrong but I can't find a spelling that look right)

Yeah this is where using your imagination comes in. The way GW did the Dread Knight, it looks exceedingly stupid and is a pretty stupid concept. I think my concept looks much better and there are dozens of ways to justify why there's no terminator poking out of the front of my Dread Knight's chest. In the grim darkness of the far future... you can explain the way anything looks any way you want...

Flinty wrote:@Kasrkin - The rifle is an extremely neat idea, but its a bit wibbly. Is there any way that you can straighten the barrels out a bit more?

That's actually the photo. The camera was about two inches from the model and because the gun is so long, it ends up looking slightly curved due to lens fish eye effect. The gun is actually pretty straight when you see it live.

I am loving the second redition of the beast. The Aesthetics come together a bit better than the first. Also, it would be awesome if you could model the Terminator in a way that would be obvious that it's restricting his movements, to possibly hint at him being neurally wired into the beast.

Yeah, that's not how I meant that response at all. I just meant that with a little imagination, you can explain how it looks. Not trying to imply anyone has a lack of imagination.

gendoikari87 wrote:Okay what did you use for the head.

It's a sarcophagus bit from the venerable dreadnought. It's the last one on the right in the photo below. I laid that on top of the Dread Knight and then stuck a plain smooth terminator shoulder pad into the oval opening to kind of make it look like a Terran Marine helmet from Starcraft. The other dread knight has the same head except I used the TAGK head inside it. I tried that with the second one, and the head fell into the hole and got stuck. So I had to cover it up with that terminator shoulder pad.

I like the one with the rifle better than the first one...though its still an improvement on the GW original.

Funny thing is I have yet to see someone make something that isnt better than the GW.

Makes me wonder if they didnt make it a bit dumb on purpose, knowing it held enough potential that people would feel the need to buy them simply to improve it...or bieng GW they actually thought they had a good model going.

Negatory stuff first.
The base is cramping his style imho.
Personally am not keen on the dreadnought bases being used, and would have tried to find another solution.

Right having got the slight downer out of the road, I am liking the concept a lot more than the standard, out of the box model.

Don't mind the size of the guns, or even the cannibalising of Eldar for the thorax. To me you have demonstrated admirably what a lot of people have been saying and proved what a bit of modelling can do for the GK.

Others can convert to their own tastes.

btw I love the second one with the uber gun.

Good job!

I really love how the Grey Knight without the Storm Bolter looks, as I myself was thinking that the Storm Bolters looked pretty awful on them. I think I might have to use that idea.

With the Dreadknight it looks to me like you're pulling the model as far as it can go, because in my opinion the whole concept of a "Dreadknight"xGUNDAMxSuperRobotWardWetDream is a terrible awful thing in the first place.

A suggestion for the next one you do, why not try to make it look more like a real life Knight? Not so sure if that would work but it might be cool. I also really dig the idea of one with a Rifle, but I think without the little grenade-launcher-ish thingy it'd look better. Maybe just it carrying the long-psycannon-rifle.

Yeah, my original plan was to just have the psycannon rifle, but my list has both weapons on it. The DK really is pretty worthless with only one weapon. The best loadout is probably a sword or hammer and two guns so it can shoot and kill all game without worrying about what phase it's in. That sword didn't look good with either of the designs, however. It kind of drew the eye away from the big guns. It's funny that you should say I should do one that actually looks like a knight as that's the one in progress right now...
