So he's got to show me every single rule and every piece of wargear?
Well, yeah. And you should be willing to do the same. It's not like at the start of the game, you'll be giving each other a crash course on 'how to play Tau and Orks' or whatever, but the codexes should be available from the respective players, and I'm betting that you can both read reasonably well.
If you think he's not following the rules, or even if you're just curious, you should be able and allowed to pick up his codex and page through it.
Er, no as that's impractical. You really think got time to go over the other codex and remember everything? I don't think so. Commanders having 2+ armour save is pretty reasonable and nothing out the ordinary so I don't understand exactly what your beef is and I'm pretty sure we can both read well so you don't need to be condescending.
mega_bassist wrote:mercer wrote:Went to the gaming club yesterday, Tau again, too many Tau players there! lol.
Come around my area, everyone plays MEQ's!!!! I'm the only active Tau player (that I know of)
As for the Battle:
The Tau had a good start, but really lost momentum, especially after losing the Stealth Team. Good job playing defensive....I know it's hard for an Ork player
Overall, it was a pretty decent game, and it looked like there were several bad rolls on both sides
TBH there's not that many Marines where I play either. It's a good mix TBH just more Tau than anything, I think there's four Tau players in total. As Marines there's myself and another two guys that's about it I think.
Tau did start off well but turn 2 was crunch time taking out those units and the Stealth Team was just bad luck. Playing defensively worked nice, I was very tempted to march my Nobz and Warboss up to that Commander and pound his head in

Sorry, Mercer. Didn't mean to sound rude (I try to be quippy, and look how it comes out...)
I'm not talking about reading through the whole codex, and remembering all of it, but the option should be there. I've yet to play a game where I couldn't page through the opponent's codex while they were busy setting up or moving their models, if for nothing more than to look at all the cool pictures, and figure out (if they're wysiwyg) how exactly his models are equipped, and I'd be glad to let my opponent do the same.
Rules aren't very helpful if everyone involved is unable to know all of them.

No worries. No offence taken.
I know what you mean, seems distrusting to me. If the Tau geezer said like his suits can move like 30" I would have said hang on a minute. But he said something which is perfectly normal. Like I said when playing some people you need to know their codex too, luckily I have a copy of the Tau codex which is coming in handy playing against all these Tau players!

Next time I play someone who doesn't know my codex I'm telling them that the avatar has 2++, furious charge and fnp, thats believable right lol.
To try and be fair to people who don't know my codex (and because I don't don't know it 100% myself) I leave my codex on the table and if they want to look at it no problems, I'd hate it if they checked every damn rule though lol

That is a problem, though, when folks assume things because they make sense. I've had more than one Space Marine player 'remind' me to take my invulnerable saves on Meganobz, getting them mixed up with Terminators, because they are roughly equivalent between the armys. For example, I could totally see the Avatar of Khaine having a 2++ and Furious charge, maybe even FnP (though 2++ and FnP would make me raise my eyebrows a bit) because it's a 'uge magma-y MC that's the embodyment of a god of war. Actually, I'd be surprised if it were revealed to me that it didn't have at least two of those things, Furious Charge especially. (Then again, I am an Ork player. Everything in my army has Furious Charge.)

Great report as usual, Mercer. I find myself wondering why his Fire Warriors charged your Boyz, though-- assault is usually the last place Tau want to be in.

Good battle report. When I saw the lists, I turned to my friend and say, just watch, this game will be effectivly over by turn 3, the orks are going to gun up the front and destroy anything and everything in their paths.
I was plesently suprised with a more tactically interesting report. You had me worried there with the first turn, I'd hate to see da boyz lose to them fishy boyz.

This game is really interesting from a Tau viewpoint, and reminds me alot of my games against Arakasi and other mech orks (despite A-man running trukks instead of Mercers battlewagons).
The Tau player needs to get incredibly lucky on hit/pen/failed KFF saves in order to make a game of it. i.e. exactly what happened here! Often that huge slice of Tau luck is *still* not enough to deal with a robust Ork list such as this.
In my only game against Arakasi that wasn't a tabling or near-tabling, I had similar luck to Connor. Got 1st turn, no night fighting, 3 hammerheads hit, and explode or immobilise all 3 trukks and all KFF saves are failed. I worked out the odds of immobilising or popping all 3 in 1 turn, its less than 3% (for battlewaggons its ~0.1%). Problem is you kind of need to get all 3 in turn 1 otherwise its a turn 2 assault and game over (as we saw here). Incidentally, Arakasi still got a draw in that game!
If there's one thing any new Tau dex needs its something to counterbalance the supremacy of fast assaulty lists such as Mercers.

Thanks man. I guess it's better to charge than be charged and I had about 6 Boyz left so maybe he was hoping to finish them off?

You know what matey I was thinking the same thing myself, obivously from the Orks point of view . I was just going to roll all Wagons up and just bail out and then smash everything to pieces and go for the table or a massive beat down.
First turn i was worried myself too, good job I took a change of underwear! lol.
