Subject: Perkustin tackles the Astartes. Dreadnought WIP.
Mark of the wulfen, MOTW is a really good upgrade for a single member of a spacewolves squad, it basically means the Squad member gets a bunch more armour piercing attacks. Obviously for a normal spacewolves army this is represented by one of the ace 'Wulfen' models.
For my non-lycan force I was thinking that a combi plasma converted to hold one of the Chainsaw bayonets from the forge world Umbra ferrox bolters would look cool. The idea being that it is a special bulkhead breaching attachment for a regular bolter (which i would call an 'Arc Render') with a plasma power source. The chainsaw would replace the muzzle of the plasma combi.

Needs a little work but personally i like it! Was never gonna use the two bits so waste not want not(more of a combi melta guy, that and my usual bitz swapping buddy has an unhealthy aversion to plasma) weapons).

Hey Perkustin, Lovely dread mate, and what an epic steamship, very jealous of those two fine models. but best of all is the Arc render , very well designed idea , looks much nicer than the original 40k chain axes placed on the end of over long bolters, but best of all is how much thought you put into the design , so it makes sense. I personally have great affection for boarding parties , after a youth spent with space crusade . iT would be cool to see a squad designed by you for close boarding actions .

Yeah space boarding actions are awesome. Mainly because they havent really been done justice in films/videogames yet. Oh btw the Arc render will be the weapon for one of the Techmarine apprentices.

Makes sense. I am trying to rack my brain for space ship boarding partie scenes now , and i cant actually recall any except the begining of Aliens , when the salvage crew enter and find ripley , oh and in 2010 , but those are all sciency and not busting doors open bolters blazing

Well decided to do some modelling today. I set myself the challenge of converting an Umbra ferrox into a combi melta and converting one of the splendid maximus armour FW marines to hold a (chaos) power fist. This will be the loadout of four of my 'Aquilifier Guard' and last time i checked i had JUST enough power fists and melta barrels to do it. The posing goal of today was to work out a way to depict the combi melta and powerfist setup in a non dramatic way. So here is the finished pose.
Initially i didnt like the way he was daintily holding the gun between thumb and forefinger but the more i thought of it the more it made sense. You generally would hold something daintily if your hand was a fist.... Of power..... I also introduce the 'Euphaestus-Corinth pattern combi-bolter' and yes that tube is from a Q-tip . I love the de-squatted legs from forgeworld gives the space marines a surprising elegance. The pose is also oddly 'pimp' he appears to have alot of 'swagger'. One slight flaw that is not pictured is the fact the cool exhaust vents from the chaos P.fist are currently venting right into a handy gap in his armour (it wouldn't fit otherwise lol)
Plus here's a dreadnought in a particularly ugly basecoat of Orange:

About that movie: OMG what a trashy Star Wars rip off, SW oozes from it's every pore! And in that capacity, how come I've never seen it? I'll make sure to watch it some time...

Was just finishing the first guy before bed last night when i decided to work on the next powerfist. It was yet another pointing one so i went ahead and chopped off the finger and the elbow as i wanted to rotate it. After about an hour rebuilding the upper arm with greenstuff and nearly as long rebuilding the knuckle of the finger i had chopped off (haha! was impressed by my OCD modelling at this point) i was left with quite a nice 'at rest' powerfist pretty similar to the command squad one (which i covet). After i had finished to my horror i realised it was left handed... Inspiration struck in the form of a very popular space marine miniature:

Spoiler:
So here is my, WIP(still working on the supplemental skirt armour), Ripoff
Pretty cool eh? I cant take credit for the great look of this guy, i didnt know the infernus pistol (thanks Unanything!) would fit so beautifully into the umbra ferrox bolter, i didnt know the maximus cuirass would make him look so tough and i lucked out on finding that captain powersword arm. He was really just a happy accident, apart from the Fist; i spent ages on that, i take full credit!
I am also very pleased with his partner who after some detail work looks pretty cool.

Please forgive the shoddiness and pixellation, i will draw it up on a vector based drawing program (Macromedia Freehand, Old but good) ASAP
I wont tell you what it is, you will have to guess. Lets just say it is 'classical' and i have put a Rhombus in the middle because lets face it, Rhombuses are cool. Apart from that it is just a simple shape as my freehand is just that, a freehand to ruin my paintjobs! XD

Wow they are looking really good , at first i though they must be really small , becuase of the 40mm base
Automatically Appended Next Post: Mm your freehand symbol has me rubbing my head , must research this classical design lol
Automatically Appended Next Post: btw have you tried Gimp for bitmap stuff , it is excellent , as good if not better than photoshop. http://www.gimp.org/

I've used gimp a couple times, i used it for a galaxy map and some fluff pics. Its great but there is just a reaction to reach for paint when i want to 'sketch' something.

your minis looking very good, and i have to demand for the people following your threads that you either zoom your pics, or that your pics be zoomable...for me the minis were way to small to fully apreciate your design! tho from what i see you have some really cool looking poses
nice idea of the symbol...i suspected something along those lines...tho after loocing up Lictor's Fasces via wiki i have to say that with all the background of that symbol the color scheme red and white with a possible blck in between might be a bit on the dangerous side...
p.s.
Apart from that it is just a simple shape as my freehand is just that, a freehand to ruin my paintjobs! XD
Wow really love the Lictor fasces, I have actually never heard of them , and i used to be in a viking reanactment group , hangs head in shame, changing the rombus to an X is a good idea , and i would change the axe head shap too , as that axe head is way to middle aged for a dark age weapon
Thanks for teaching me something new today

Cheers for looking vik! Yeah will zoom in a bit next time.
From what i remember a lictor was a senator's bodyguard and they weren't allowed to bring blades into the senate. To make sure they could still do their job however they were allowed to bring in a tight bundle of sticks that would hurt but not kill. To give his personal bodyguards an edge it was said that Sulla, a kindof proto Julius Caesar had his Lictors hide an axe in their bundles, Just in case. Needless to say everyone else followed suit.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is something mad i just thought up for my rune priest/librarian. The way the cloaks merged after a bit of snipping said to me that this was meant to happen.
Next step is GS the gap and add some bulk to the wrist, he's still a superhuman after all! More on this as i progress.

Looking good, looking good. One thing though, imo the marine with the combi melter is bit out of balance. I'd try to build up his chest and waist a little (like you started by adding that shield to his belt), the arms look huge atm.

I recognised the Fasces fairly easily. T be honest as far as I'm concerned it's as PC as the Aquila....Conversions are looking excellent and I especially like the casual Power Fist guy. It's so rare to see one actually being used to do something other than unch or gesture.
