There's obviously no way I'd be able to continue playing while I'm in, and frankly, I don't feel compelled to waste money on it in the time I have left... Not to mention the only person I play on a regular basis with is moving to California this summer, so there'd be no one to play with (all of our gaming group is connected to his family, not mine) anyway.

I love the hobby and the game a lot, but it just seems like a losing prospect when I have other things that could be done with my hard earned cash... And time. I'd definitely keep my armies, most likely in the care of my parents, and maybe when I get out (IN FOUR YEARS) I could pick it up again.... But I might not even care about it at that point. I just don't really know what to do.

Anyway. Have you ever considered quitting? How'd you figure it out? Even better, if you're on of those people who picked it up after a long hiatus, how do you feel about it now? Thanks

I'm active duty US Navy. I play 40K erryday. We play tons of kill team/combat patrol while we're at sea, I build and paint models on my duty days.

Trust me. After boot / "A" school, you're going to be bored out of your gourd. Life at sea is pretty... uneventful.

I gave up in 2004, and recently bought a ork battleforce. Since buying it ive invested a lot of money in very few months, and am left wandering why i ever quit.

I quit for about 3 years due to the people I played with ceasing to play.

I got back into it early last year, found a local games club and really enjoy playing again!

Although I am a little disenchanted by how much prices rose in just 3 years off!!

Leigen_Zero wrote:I think it's been mentioned before, but I ask you, do you prefer playing or modelling?

If you prefer modelling, have you thought about just switching your focus? i.e. instead of painting large units/armies for playing purposes, maybe start doing smaller units or single models, and spending lots of time getting them to insane standards/just improving your technique?

That way, you could still enjoy the hobby while making it fit better with your changed lifestyle.

I enjoy both, but probably the modelling aspect more so. Thank you

This thread has been incredibly helpful, and I appreciate every single post I think I definitely keep most (if not all) of my stuff, bits, paints, tools, models.. everything. I can imagine getting out in four or so years, finding some people who play, and completely regret scrapping all of my hard earned plastic crack

I think if you take a break for a while and return to it when you can you will be fine, perhaps you will gain a whole new level of enthusiam for the hobby.

I think its safe to say once a gamer, always a gamer!

I was really thinking about this too.

There's a point when you get tired of knowing everything about everything in the 41st millenium, where you'd like to go back to being that naive gamer who wants to buy the most rediculous things simply because it looks cool, and where you stop smelling the familiar smell of GW boxes, super glue, foundation paints, and Simple green. I want to go back to that, because as far as I can tell, those feelings bring back my best memories of 40k, and to re-live them would be the best things in the world

I was considering the marines. You guys get the best uniforms, the best reputation and the hottest women I wish you the best of luck. ESPECIALLY in boot camp. Run a mile in a minute? What?

I'm not quitting, per se, but I am changing focus.

I'm switching out my games, so instead of collecting 40k and Warmachine, it's Flames of War and Field of Glory.

Eye of Terra.

I had thought about quitting while serving in the military many times. Though not out of simple inconvenience. The manner in which I served didn't facilitate playing the game and precluded keeping much in the way of personal items as well.

I think what really brought me closest to giving up entirely was the experience itself. I realized the world was 'grim dark' enough already and the game seemed to 'play' lightly with the things I saw everyday. It took me a long time to be able to separate the images of what had happened in our 'grim reality' with those conjured up rather cavalierly in the 40k universe.

I hope that makes sense.
