Hey Dakkanauts, I've just started my 4th Army (2nd if you don't count things I no longer own) and I've decided to plog it's progress on dakka's P&M Blogs section. I plan to discuss fluff, army composition and of course, lots of photos of my progress. I really want to make my Nids brutal so I'm going to be experimenting with lots of blood splatter and perhaps some gore. If you're into the "horror movie" style of Tyranid thinking.. then we're on the same page.

Not much to say yet! So may as well get started!

I started my army on the new Nid models release day. Here's the haul from the first day:

WIP of Timmy the Test Gaunt, the very basic idea of the paint scheme:

Timmy the Test Gaunt in the completed basic color scheme:

And from his good side:

Currently I've started working on a Carnifex. You may notice I've chosen a turquoise/ice blue for the fleshy internal parts that was not present on Timmy the Test Gaunt, so the color scheme is sort of evolving to its final step here. Timmy will have to get touched up with all the new details.

Here is is... WIP:

From the side:

So it's all very much still WIP. Thanks for your commentary. Lots of updates to come. Enjoy!

right off the back i like the look of the green. Its just hard to see with the cream and the cream base. Other than that, what are you planning to add to the army?

Looking good so far. I like the shading/blending of the green. Nicely done.

Bases are cream colored right now because I'm using Army Painter "Skeleton Bone" colored primer spray... and I haven't decided how to base them yet. I'm thinking jungle.

I currently have built:
1 Tervigon
1 Trygon
1 Winged Hive Tyrant
12 Gaunts
1 Carnifex

So that's pretty much the laundry list of what you can expect to see painted in the near future.

Expect Genestealers, Zoanthropes, a Doom of Malan'Tai and lots more gribby little ones (Gaunts, gants, rippers)

That's a nice color scheme. I don't know the proper painting terms, but the carapace looks very high quality. It'll probably be tiring to paint that well on a hundred bajillion gaunts once yer done with all the fun guys (like the Hive Tyrant) but it'll be worth it.

The gaunts will get a simplified scheme at first, with more intense shading once their completely done.

That's a good idea.

Completed my TL Devfex aka the "Shocker Killer". Going to put him up in the showcase as well, to get the gauge of what the larger, non-plog reading dakkanaut population thinks. Enjoy!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As we can see, Timmy the test gaunt has been based, along with Tommy the Scheme Gaunt.

Tommy represents the "final beta" of the color scheme, which is also final with the Carnifex. Gaunts have a simplified version (since I'll be painting roughly 100 of them) and I'll get back to them a bit later and add a bit more detail. Enjoy and C&C is encouraged as always!

A sneak peek at all the gribblies that need painting. There's a tervigon, a Zoat, a Trygon, 24 Termagants and 16 Genestealers.

You might also recognize my Night Lords on the shelf below them

Question...for your carnifex, were did you get the idea for the pose??? It looks great! I really like the blood.. excelent touch for the gory side of nids. I think the blue is a little to bright IMHO, but if you wash it it might look better. Over all...Amazing!

I was planning on painting the Trygons next, but I can get on the Tervigon instead.

With those huge scything talons, I figured he probably has to lurch upright to bring those suckers down on someone, so that was kind of the general idea. The blue is a lot darker than the picture suggests, it's just heavily coated in gloss to make the fleshy bits look slimy, so it's catching a lot of light.
