Yes, there are. Remember, 40k and most games, have permissive rules sets, that is, you can do what you're given allowance to do. Nothing else.

Avrik_Shasla wrote: The codex states that you must take three hard points per team member and can even take more systems from the armory.
This your answer; *must* take 3 Hard Point items, and then the wargear is spelled out as being accessible to Team Leaders and 'Vres and HQs.

Also, where did you find that "must take 3"?

"Equipment: Each Shas'vre is equipped with an XV8 Crisis battlesuit, and must select three battlesuit weapons systems or support systems. Each may select additional items from the Battlesuit Wargear list, including Special Issue systems."

It would seem Avrik is right....

Then why does it say after the "Must take three" it also "Each may take select additional items from the Battlesuit Wargear list, including Special issue systems."

This points out the fact that you MUST select at least three.

No, not "at least" three. Just "three"; there's a difference.

Then the wargear debate:
Bodyguard 'Vres, on page 33 are *very* special. They're like a marine sergeant or an eldar exarch, a cut above the others, having access to toys others don't.

Now look at the regular Crisis Suit on page 34. The Equipment paragraph just says ... "3 wep systems OR support systems." That'd be columns 1 & 2 on page 25. Not Wargear, column #3. Below that, it says, 'character'; this is an upgrade model, like a marine sergeant or an eldar exarch, and this "team leader" or for a few points more a 'Vre, may select items from the wargear list, column #3 on page 25.

Clearer?

And guys, I'm a 6 year tau player. If you don't believe me, fly this on YMDC.

A page 34 pair of XV8s:
Suit #1 - PlasmaRifle, Missile Pod, MultiTracker
Suit #2 - his older buddy, Team Leader with PlasmaRifle, Missile Pod, Target Array, hwMT and hwDrone Controler and 2 ShieldDs.

A page 33 Bodyguard unit:
Suit#1 - Cyclic Ion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Target Array, hwMultiTracker
Suit#2 - PlasmaRifle, Missile Pod, Target Array, hw MultiTracker hwDrone Controler, 2 ShieldDs, Bonding Knife.

There has to be a Shas'el suit with the bodyguard, too.

Make sense?

As to the list, your devilfish are undercosted. You have them listed as 50 points. They actually cost 80 (ouch).

Don't take iridium armor. It doesn't give you an invuln, and takes away their best quality (JSJ)

NO markerlights on the fire warriors. It can not help that unit, and you will rarely be able to fire it.

I wouldn't take missile pods and fusion blasters on a suit. Their ranges are way too different, and the fusion blaster will rarely get used. If you really want to keep it, drop the multi-trackers and give them targetting arrays. Since you will so rarely get to shoot both, the multi-trackers will be a waste.

Drop the rail rifles from the pathfinders. Also, pathfinders MUST (I repeat, they HAVE TO) take a devilfish (at the normal 80 point cost).

Get rid of the ion cannon on the hammerhead. They just aren't as good as the railgun.

So your list is actually missing 240 points (2 devilfish and the points for the other two). Thats some serious cutting.[list]

JSJ stands for jump-shoot-jump.

You position your crisis suits near some large piece of terrain

Jump forward in the move phase
Shoot in the shooting phase
Jump behind the piece of terrain in the assault phase.

If done right, the enemies won't be able to see or shoot you without some difficulty.
