Looking good so far. Though IMO it might add a bit more individuality to the dreads to have them wearing the salamander hides on different spots. Maybe one draped off the shoulder or something.

I'm just talkin' about Megaweapon.

Aha! I was productive So I highlighted and based some squads :

the 2nd Assault Squad

Spoiler:

The sarge still needs some details done.

And the 1st devastator squad

Spoiler:

Still need to do flame work on the purity seals/tabards etc

and the 2nd Devastator squad
Spoiler:

Again with the incomplete scroll on the shoulder

and the 3rd devastator squad

Spoiler:

and the one in the back corner needs some flames

But it is progress and I even got to some of the dreadnaughts for some more green and metal paint work.

Gone for three weeks to try to make an Ard Boyz list and I forget to update. That is until I realized I was using a proxy for Vulkan He'stan and needed to make one. Well, out came the snips and I was so proud I started to take pictures and went

"Oh yeah"

So here are some updated pictures of the last three weeks. We'll start with an Ironclad with some golds and boltgun painted on.
Spoiler:

Then the Venerable sporting an assault cannon that I tried out on a game versus Chaos.
Spoiler:

Next some assault terminators that I have. They'll likely split into 3SS 2 LC and 2SS and 3 LC for some variable punch and soaking. I am trying to think of ways to make more of a salamander feel without painting just flames on them. WIP!

3 SS and 2 LC
Spoiler:

Here's the 2 SS and 3 LC squad
Spoiler:

My metal close combat scouts with a power fist toting sarge have come along well.

But here is my newest and imho greatest model. My custom Vulkan He'stan.

He's made of several kits I broke into and 2 things I specifically ordered from ebay:
GK back, halberd, and legs
SM champion back pack, shoulder pad and front torso
CH icon shoulder pad
SM capt lightning claw (claws cut off)
SM hand inside carved out gauntlet
Dark elf corsair cloak, cold one head, and lizardman heads
Venerable Dreadnought head
IG heavy flamer
Spoiler:

Thanks for the comments and I'll try to stay on top.

Great work, I love a good kitbash! Great use of dark elf bits in particular - can't wait to see him with a lick of paint!

Well, I got too enthused and so here he is with 'a lick of paint'...

...and then I realized I had done more than 'lick'. Let's not describe it further yes?

Basically I almost finished it today. The wash for shadows, highlighting with the snot of green and deciding what do to with the lizard head on the spear. Leave it green or maybe paint some bone on the horns? I don't think I'll add any flames to the white of the cloak, though I may do some kind of edging. I would like to point out that Chapter House shoulder pad was both awesome and terrifying to do.

Great work - glad I poked you with a paint stick! Nice to see the chapterhouse pad too, got one just yesterday!
Only thing I would say is that the colours seem quite flat at present - though that maybe the photograph. Mind you I guess washes are still to come to. I watch with interest!

Thanks for the comments and now here's some more rhino action
Spoiler:

Lots still to do and clean up on the front windows. I figured I should make them match the marines' eyes. I also need to layer some more white on the tac arrow to smooth it out. More work was done on my dreads as well as Vulkan but the lightning came out bad so I'll try for better pics later.

Thanks again all

Alrighty so I have better lighting for my second take and here are some dreadnoughts!

The rifle dread
Spoiler:

The AoBR dread
Spoiler:

I reaaly need to decide what to put in that black area...

The Ironclad
Spoiler:

Once more another black area to mural upon..

and the Venerable Dreadnought
Spoiler:

Probably just flames on the greaves for the venerable dreadnought.

So overall I need to clean up the black areas, paint some edging to straighten the the colors out and base them.

This though is my pride and joy. I loved trying to convert him and paint up my custom Vulkan He'stan
Spoiler:

I may try to add some kind of a glowing orange to the halberd but I love how he came together. He just needs to be based to say 'finished'.

Thanks, on the dread bases I'll try to make bigger rocks but on the basic trooper I wanted the impression there's few of these purple rocks and lots of the 'black expanse' as it were.

So I wasn't slacking, I just wasn't taking pictures...
Spoiler:

I'm going to continue trying to put the dark elf corsair cloaks on my HQ models and I think the librarian pulls it off nicely. I still have to base it and write something on the purity seals. Oh and drill out the bolter.

Spoiler:

And I didn't have the heart to change the chaplain in terminator armor. I still have to highlight, base, and paint the weapons some more. I haven't touched the storm bolter.

Spoiler:

That's right! I started another rhino with FW stuff. I'm debating whether I should keep the exhaust metal colored or put some plastic sheet on it, bulk it up and paint it black. Hence the side by side pics. The first one has the flames done and I even did the windows before starting on the second rhino. I may even start a third rhino before painting a drop pod

Now if you've noticed I've been a little scattered in my painting. Not finishing one project before bouncing to another. I'll admit it was a task to keep my hand painting and not building new stuff. I even did some work on my terminators and put some FW shoulder pads on the assault terms. Well, just the other day I made these : wreck markers.

Now I can almost hear someone ask, "Where'd the nice light box go? Why a dark room and flash?"

Hoozah! A guy I game with mentioned seeing these kind of markers on the e-bay for $7 and said "Hey, I can make those" and he did. Then I saw them and said "Hey, I could make those. Wait, how did you make those?"

Turns out you just need some electric tealight candles, some stuffing and primer/paint. So I went to a Walgreen's (corner drug store), got a 6 pack for $5, took some stuffing I had, and went outside. I formed the stuffing into appropriate shapes (as opposed to inappropriate ones?) and went to town on them with white, gray, and black spray primers/paints. A little superglue later and they're on top. I may use some hairspray to hold the shape better and I will paint the e. candle base black but there you go!

Digging deep into my pile I got some more vehicles started up.

First, I did get that third rhino started...
Spoiler:

Here's all three. The two FW rhinos in the middle and right

I used a base and cut the middle out and stuck a Cold One head in there

and there's the Dark Angels? bit to spruce up the other side.

... before starting a Drop Pod
Spoiler:

Again the bases with the middle cut out to ring an item. Here is another Cold One head and the left ring has a Mantic Dwarf Hammer. Those crossbow Dwarfs kit had some nice bits in there.

and another 2 hammers

And when I was done I started assembly on a Predator I just got. New Toy Syndrome and all that

There's a single magnet on the inside to help stick the AC or tl LC on the turret.
Spoiler:

Here's the sponson magnet so I can cover with a door or get extra weapons

and here you can see the sponson weapon magnet so I can switch LC or HB

I just love Cold One heads. Very nice fit and all that. I think the eye lines up and freems but some say it's the LC that does it.

And there we have more progress on the company. I also did more details on the librarian and I'll likely base him and the term Chaplain next. Keep mixing it up so I can stay on task and not burn out painting large flat surfaces. Till next time.

Here again to spread some flaming death, the 4th company Salamanders.

First up is the Chaplain sporting TDA with some more work on him including some more metal highlights. No really, there's two different metal on those chains now
Spoiler:

Next up is a chaplain wearing the jump pack with an added book and Salamander Icon on top. It really belongs to the Librarian in TDA armor but how would he know it was missing?

You can really tell I haven't done enough work on him. The head/chest really looks that bleh in person also.
Spoiler:

Speaking of the Librarian in TDA here he is sporting a Chapter House Shield. I really like the way the shield seems to scale with the TDA. Though to be fair on my other Termies I put the Lizardmen shields on them.
Spoiler:

And to finish up here's the first Librarian with more details. I'm really happy the way the book on his hip came out.
Spoiler:

Seeing this really wants me to edge all of their armor in green but I'll wait to do that after I get some more work on the vehicles done. ROTATE!
Thanks for viewing

Spoiler:

Some purity seals and a few base coats really help.

The top scales were the top of the carnifex head I had lying around

Here's the techmarine with a metal coat and green. Lots to do with him.
Spoiler:

So what's my excuse for taking a month plus to update? Well, some Orks showed up and green is best. Plus I've been squirreling away some time and effort into this:

The kit came in and I've been getting this and that to build Awesome. Yes it deserves an A

Another update for those who've been watching.

More on the Thunderfire Cannon with some highlighting and more layers. I've been trying to do the Tech Marine but have been putting it off
Spoiler:

And here's the predator. The Chapterhouse bits really made a difference I think. Put another wash and touch up the black and that area will be done. I still need to decide how to highlight the hull proper though.
Spoiler:

Mhmm, another wash as in person the red on the black is more subdued so it'll come together. With no pics I also put some details on the terminators (non assault) and went back and painted more Salamanders on the pads. I missed some on the Assault and Devastators but otherwise I'm taking my time on the ICs (JP Chaplain and the like) After the Terminators I'll go back and finish up the dreads. They look ok but when you get close you can easily tell I haven't finished...

You sir, have gained my utmost respect and 10 internets from me.

For these reasons,
A) The amount of time you have spent on these guys is amazing
B) The amount of money you have dedicated to the hobby is rather substantial and shows a tremendous amount of commitment
C) Your conversions, FW parts, painting and just everything is f***ing brilliant!

You are doing exactly what I want to do but alas I am poor and lack many of the skills you posses. So keep going!!

Hello once again form the Nocturne based Salamander's Factorum. Here we'll see more of the process by which the Adeptus Astartes bless their armor.
Spoiler:

Why here's some members of First Company or Fire Drakes with Thunder Hammers and Lightning Claws

And another group of the proud Fire Drakes. Those flames look HOT!

Here's a servo skull's POV. Don't they look impressive folks? I'd almost feel sorry for the Enemies of Mankind if they weren't already foul Xenos or Malicious Heretics!

And here's a Sergeant of the more gun oriented Terminators. My Lord a quick question...

...perhaps another time.

Ah, now here's something. There's a repair bay over here...
Spoiler:

Oh my, this doesn't look like STC for Salamanders. Tech Priest, may I ask about this Skimmer?

"Ah, this was damaged in a battle which our brother Blood Angels fought with us against the foul Dark Eldar. They left it in our care to repair and retrieve at a later date. We repaired the damaged sections and placed a plaque commemorating this joined battle"

I see and when was it damaged?

"M41.491 I believe"

So it's been here for close to 500 years?

"Indeed, another decade and their claim may be voided and the skimmer painted in our Chapter colors"

Um, what would the Slow but Stoic Salamanders do with it?

"...We don't know"
Spoiler:

So as we continue the tour of the Factorum floor we see yet another work in progress and it is a much more familiar design

Yes it is indeed a Thunder Hawk

A pretty basic shape from www.robswagonworks.co.uk
Spoiler:

A strip of skulls along that middle panel is a good start.

I've been slowly adding plasticard and bits from Max Mini to build upon the shape. Pretty much a 1mm card for basic panels and then a thinner platicard for strips/shapes and rivets.

Thanks for Viewing and take care all
